Triathlon Australia is delighted to congratulate CEO Miles Stewart OAM OLY on his election to the World Triathlon Executive Board at the World Triathlon Annual General Meeting on Sunday night.
Securing a majority of votes, Stewart’s election continues Australia’s longstanding place at the World Triathlon table and maintains a voice for the Oceania region at the sport’s highest level.
Speaking on the result, Stewart said that he is humbled to have been elected.
“Australia has always had a strong legacy of contribution to the sport at the highest level since the inception of World Triathlon, and I’m thrilled to continue that legacy with my election to the Executive Board,” Stewart said.
“I sincerely appreciate the support that I’ve received from around the world and the confidence in my ability to lead the sport.”
“The skills that I’ve acquired throughout my career as an athlete, administrator, corporate executive and board member puts me in a unique position to help the sport in a post-COVID environment, and I’m looking forward to getting into it.”
In addition to the election of Stewart to the World Triathlon Executive Board, five Australians were elected to World Triathlon Committees and Tribunals.
Triathlon Australia President Michelle Cooper was elected to the Women’s Committee, with fellow TA Board Member Stuart Corbishley elected to the Legal & Constitution Committee.
Brian Hinton was re-elected to his position on the Multisport Committee, while Lyndell Murray and Barry Lipp were elected to the Technical Committee and World Triathlon Tribunal, respectively.
Triathlon Australia President Michelle Cooper said she is thrilled to see these individuals elected to their respective World Triathlon Boards, Committees and Tribunals.
“The Triathlon Australia board has developed a long term strategic plan around critical representative roles that support our objective to be a sport for all, winning when it matters and enhancing visibility to bring opportunities for participation at all levels,” Cooper said.
“These appointments are recognition that the strategy is working and we will continue to identify talented, experienced and committed individuals in our network for future roles.”
With elections now complete at both a National and International level, the Triathlon Australia Board and Representatives are preparing to embark on another four-year cycle of governance and delivery of the strategic plan, ushering in the next chapter of promoting and advancing the sport.
