2020 INTERNATIONAL TRIATHLON UNION AGE GROUP WORLD MULTISPORT CHAMPIONSHIPS

Venue: Almere, Netherlands

Events: Sprint Distance Duathlon (Draft Legal), Standard Distance Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon, Aquabike and Long Distance Triathlon

Athletes must be 16 years old as of the 31st of December 2020 to compete in the Sprint Distance Duathlon (Draft Legal), Standard Distance Duathlon and Aquathlon age group world championships.

Athletes must be 18 years old as of the 31st of December 2020 to compete in the Standard Distance Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, Aquabike and Long Distance Triathlon age group world championships.

Athletes are able to compete in more than one event at the 2020 International Triathlon Union Age Group World Multisport Championships. If you would like to be selected in more than one event for example the Sprint Distance Duathlon and Cross Triathlon events you will need to complete 2 separate 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Applications.

2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Policy (Sprint Distance Duathlon, Standard Distance Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon, Aquabike and Long Distance Triathlon): The selection policy will be released onto the TA website by 5pm AEST Monday the 1st of July 2019.


Plea
se do not print the 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Policy as this policy is subject to change throughout the 2019/2020 selection period. Changes will be noted on the final page/ last page of the selection policy.

Please be aware that if you are selected to compete on the Australian age group team in the 2020 ITU Age Group Sprint Distance Duathlon (DRAFT LEGAL) Championships you will need to meet specific ITU Bike Equipment Rules. Please read the ITU Competition rules page 32 to view the equipment rules.

2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Important Facts

1. For selection points in an event to accumulate towards selection an athlete must hold a current relevant Triathlon Australia Membership as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of the relevant event.

2. Athletes striving for 2020 Australian age group team selection must not be the holder of a Triathlon Australia Professional License during the financial year in which the selection events conducted. Athletes must race in your designated age group category on race day at the nominated selection events. Athletes will not be awarded selection points when they race a nominated selection race in the OPEN category.

3. To be selected for the 2020 Australian age group team you must be an Australian citizen. Triathlon Australia will be verifying athletes citizenship 16 weeks before the 2020 ITU World Championship events. Triathlon Australia will not select permanent residents to the 2020 Australian age group team.

4. 2020 ITU Race Competition Rules stipulate that Triathlon Australia may nominate a maximum of 20 males and 20 females in each age group category of the 2020 International Triathlon Union Triathlon World Championships.

5. Athletes must notify Triathlon Australia of their Expression of Interest for selection by applying on-line on the Triathlon Australia website, www.triathlon.org.au. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes: Australian athletes residing overseas who wish to be considered for selection, Athletes who wish to be considered for discretionary selection and Athletes who have gained automatic selection. No late applications will be accepted for the 2020 Australian age group multisport team under any circumstances. 

6. Athletes will pay a $75.00 application fee when notifying Triathlon Australia of their Expression of Interest for selection online. If an athlete is not selected onto the team $55.00 of their application fee will be refunded. If an athlete is selected onto the team and the athlete declines the position on the 2020 team no part of the application fee will be refunded. If an athlete is selected onto the team and they accept their position on the team the $75.00 application fee will be deducted from the athletes overall 2020 athlete contribution.

7. The 2020 Australian age group multisport and triathlon teams are self funded. Athletes once selected to the 2020 Australian age group team will be asked to confirm their position on the team by completing payment of an athlete contribution. This contribution is made up of the event entry fee, international travel insurance, team management fee and services. Athletes will be asked to purchase 2020 Australian age group team uniform. Travel and accommodation costs are to be met by each individual athlete. 

8. The International Triathlon Union age group eligibility criteria for racing at the 2020 International Triathlon Union Age Group World Championships is determined based on an athlete’s age on the 31st of December 2020.  This is important to remember as Australian athletes will compete in selection events under the Australian Competition Rules. Athletes will race selection races as your age at the 31st of December 2019. Results from each nominated selection event will be converted to age as at 31 December 2020 and selection points allocated in priority order per the official race finishing time. Athletes will not necessarily be awarded the same selection points as your race day finish in the selection event. Athletes selection points may differ than the race day finish due to athletes moving age group categories to meet the ITU age group eligibility.

9. Triathlon Australia urges athletes interested in being selected to the 2020 Australian age group multisport or triathlon teams to read the relevant 2020 Australian Age Group Team Selection Policy carefully. The relevant selection policy outlines everything you need to know in regards to selection.

What are the financial costs involved when competing on the 2020 Australian Age group Multisport Team:

Once an athlete is selected to compete on the 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team (Almere, Netherlands) the costs involved include:

1. Athletes will be asked to confirm their team selection by completing payment of an athlete contribution. The athlete contribution includes the event entry fee (this fee is paid directly to the local event organisers in Almere), team manager, team bike mechanic, team doctor, Australian team function, international travel insurance which will cover athletes for training and racing overseas, GST and Active network processing fee. The athlete contribution ranges from $600 to $1000 depending on the event entry fee set by each local organising committee (Almere). Athletes are given approximately 8 weeks to complete this payment to secure their 2020 Australian age group multisport team selection.

2. Athletes will need to purchase an Australian age group multisport team official race uniform. The race uniform is approximately $160 to $200. Triathlon Australia does provide a large number of optional uniform items which athletes may purchase from the official uniform shop once selected to the team.

3. Individual flights and accommodation to Almere, Netherlands. Triathlon Australia does work with a preferred travel supplier which athletes may use. Triathlon Australia nominates a Australian team age group hotel. The Triathlon Australia age group team support staff are based in this hotel throughout the event week. The Australian age group team function is normally held at this hotel during the competition week. Once we have confirmed our travel and accommodation packages we will place this information onto this webpage. Once selected athletes will be sent all relevant information regarding the travel packages.

4. Selected athletes must also have a current 2019/2020 Triathlon Australia Membership.


5. Athletes who compete in more than one event for example sprint distance duathlon and standard distance duathlon events will only pay one TA athlete contribution. Athletes will pay the TA athlete contribution and then the event entry for the sprint distance duathlon and then the entry fee for the standard distance duathlon event entry fee.

Athletes will race selection races as your age at the 31st of December 2019. Results from each nominated selection event will be converted to age as at 31 December 2020 and selection points allocated in priority order per the official race finishing time. Athletes will not necessarily be awarded the same selection points as your race day finish in the selection event. Athletes selection points may differ than the race day finish due to athletes moving age group categories to meet the ITU age group eligibility.

4. Athletes may be noted as NON Members in the selection point documents however they may actually be current TA Members. Please note if your name is spelt slightly incorrectly in your race entry or you have used a nickname which does not match your current TA membership in your race entry you will not be awarded selection points. For example if your TA membership is in Thomas Bloggs and then your race entry is completed as Tom Bloggs you will not be awarded selection points as we can not match your membership to your race entry. 5. Please note there may be a delay in posting the selection points after each event. Triathlon Australia must wait for the official race results to be sent by the race organiser, sometimes there is a delay in this information due to race day queries, disqualifications etc.
