2. Athletes striving for 2020 Australian age group team selection must not be the holder of a Triathlon Australia Professional License during the financial year in which the selection events conducted. 4. 2020 ITU Race Competition Rules stipulate that Triathlon Australia may nominate a maximum of 20 males and 20 females in each age group category of the 2020 International Triathlon Union Multisport World Championships.

5. Athletes must notify Triathlon Australia of their Expression of Interest for selection by applying on-line on the Triathlon Australia website, www.triathlon.org.au. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes: Australian athletes residing overseas who wish to be considered for selection, Athletes who wish to be considered for discretionary selection and Athletes who have gained automatic selection. No late applications will be accepted for the 2020 Australian age group multisport team under any circumstances.

6. The 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport team is self/ athlete funded. Athletes once selected to the 2020 Australian age group team will be asked to confirm their position on the team by completing payment of an athlete contribution. This contribution is made up of the event entry fee, team management fee, international travel insurance and services. Athletes will be asked to purchase 2020 Australian age group team uniform. 7. Triathlon Australia urges athletes interested in being selected to the 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team to read the 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Policy and the 2020 Australian Age Group Aquabike Team Selection Policy carefully. The selection policies outline everything you need to know in regards to selection to the 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team.

What are the financial costs involved when competing on the 2020 Australian Age group Multisport Team:

Once an athlete is selected to compete on the 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team (Almere, Netherlands) the costs involved include:

1. Athletes will pay a $75.00 application fee when notifying Triathlon Australia of their Expression of Interest for selection online. If an athlete is not selected onto the team $55.00 of their application fee will be refunded. If an athlete is selected onto the team and the athlete declines the position on the 2020 team no part of the application fee will be refunded. If an athlete is selected onto the team and they accept their position on the team the $75.00 application fee will be deducted from the athletes overall 2020 athlete contribution.

2. Athletes who have been selected to the 2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team will be asked to confirm their team selection by completing payment of an athlete contribution. The athlete contribution includes the event entry fee (this fee is paid directly to the local event organisers in Almere), team manager, Australian team function, international travel insurance which will cover athletes for training and racing overseas, GST and Active network processing fee. The athlete contribution ranges from $600 to $1000 depending on the event entry fee set by each local organising committee (Almere). Athletes are given approximately 8 weeks to complete this payment to secure their 2020 Australian age group multisport team selection.

Athletes who compete in more than one event for example sprint distance duathlon and standard distance duathlon events will only pay one TA athlete contribution. Athletes will pay the TA athlete contribution and then the event entry for the sprint distance duathlon and then the entry fee for the standard distance duathlon event entry fee.

3. Athletes will need to purchase an Australian age group multisport team official race uniform. The race uniform is approximately $160 to $200. Triathlon Australia does provide a large number of optional uniform items which athletes may purchase from the official uniform shop once selected to the team.

4. Individual flights and accommodation to Almere, Netherlands. Triathlon Australia does work with a preferred travel supplier which athletes may use. Triathlon Australia nominates a Australian team age group hotel. The Triathlon Australia age group team support staff are based in this hotel throughout the event week. The Australian age group team function is normally held at this hotel during the competition week. Once we have confirmed our travel and accommodation packages we will place this information onto this webpage. Once selected athletes will be sent all relevant information regarding the travel packages.

5. Selected athletes must also have a current 2020/2021 Triathlon Australia Membership when competing at the 2020 ITU Age Group World Multisport Championships.

2020 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Points:

1. Selection Points Table: In 2019 TA trialled a new system of not publishing every individual athletes selection points for the multisport events. Due to the smaller number of athletes who would like to gain selection for the 2020 Australian age group multisport team we will continue with this system. By publishing each individuals selection points this does not provide a realistic picture for an athlete seeking selection for the 2020 Australian multisport team. We have found TA members not applying for the team as they thought they did not have a chance to be selected due to the overall selection points table. An individual athlete may be sitting in 40th position on the selection points table, however in reality 30 athletes in front of this athlete do not want to be selected for the 2020 Australian multisport team. If we note applications for a particular age group reach 15 applications (TA are able to select 20 athletes per gender, per age group and per event) we will publish individual selection points for this particular age group.

Please note we will be publishing individual selection points per event in 2021 due to the number of athletes who will be seeking selection for the 2021 ITU Multisport World Championships in Townsville, Australia.

2. For selection points in an event to accumulate towards selection an athlete must hold a current relevant Triathlon Australia Membership as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of the relevant event.

3. Athletes striving for 2020 Australian age group team selection must not be the holder of a Triathlon Australia Professional License during the financial year in which the selection events conducted. Athletes must race in your designated age group category on race day at the nominated selection events. Athletes will not be awarded selection points when they race a nominated selection race in the OPEN/ ELITE category.

4. The International Triathlon Union age group eligibility criteria for racing at the 2020 International Triathlon Union Age Group World Championships is determined based on an athlete’s age on the 31st of December 2020.  This is important to remember as Australian athletes will compete in selection events under the Australian Competition Rules. Athletes will race selection races as your age at the 31st of December 2019. Results from each nominated selection event will be converted to age as at 31 December 2020 and selection points allocated in priority order per the official race finishing time. Athletes will not necessarily be awarded the same selection points as your race day finish in the selection event. Athletes selection points may differ than the race day finish due to athletes moving age group categories to meet the ITU age group eligibility.
