CAN I APPLY FOR THE 2012 TEAM AFTER THE APPLICATION CUTOFF DATE?

2012 Australian Age Group team applications will NOT be taken after the cutoff date under any circumstances. Please note the closing date and time for applications below.

WHEN DO THE 2012 APPLICATIONS CLOSE?

Long Distance, Spain: Monday 5^th March 2012 at 5pm AEDST

Duathlon, France: Monday 16^th April 2012 at 5pm AEDST

Sprint Distance, New Zealand: Monday 16^th April 2012 at 5pm AEDST

Olympic Distance, New Zealand: Monday 16^th April 2012 at 5pm AEDST

CAN I APPLY FOR MORE THAN ONE DISTANCE?

Athletes can apply for as many different distances as they like. Please note the ITU Competition Rules highlight that athletes are not allowed to compete in the Sprint and Olympic distance events in New Zealand at the 2012 ITU World Triathlon Championships. You can apply for both the Sprint and Olympic distance events, but if you are selected for both events you will need to choose either the Sprint or Olympic distance event.

SHOULD I READ THE 2012 SELECTION POLICY?

Please read the 2012 International Triathlon Union World Championships Age Group Team Selection Policy for your race distance. This is very important and will explain the qualifying process for the 2012 Australian teams.

IF SELECTED ONTO THE 2012 AUSTRALIAN AGE GROUP TEAM WHAT DO I NEED TO PAY?

The 2012 Australian Age Group team is a fully self-funded team. Costs to be met by each team member include but are not limited to:

    a) Athlete Services Contribution which includes:

            i) the race entry fee

            ii) the team management fee

            iii) travel insurance (including personal accident insurance while training and racing overseas).

    b) the team uniform (race suit and casual)

    c) travel and accommodation

The athlete services contribution will be highlighted to selected athletes before the athletes accept their position onto the 2012 Australian Age Group Team.

CAN I APPLY FOR THE 2012 TEAM IF I AM AN AUSTRALIAN PERMANENT RESIDENT?

You must be an Australian citizen to qualify for the team. You cannot qualify for the 2012 team is you are an Australian permanent resident. (All selected team members will be asked to prove their citizenship before competing in any World Triathlon or Duathlon event).

HOW MANY ATHLETES WILL AUSTRALIA SELECT TO COMPETE AT THE 2012 WORLD TRIATHLON AND DUATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS?

Australia will select 20 male and 20 female athletes in each age group for example the 40 to 44 age group.

WILL I RECEIVE SELECTION POINTS AT THE SELECTION EVENTS IF I AM NOT A TRIATHLON AUSTRALIA MEMBER?

For selection points in an event to accumulate towards selection an athlete must hold a current Triathlon Australia membership as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of the relevant selection event. If you are not a member you will not receive any selection points.

DO I NEED TO RACE IN MY AGE CATEGORY TO GAIN SELECTION POINTS? CAN I RACE IN THE OPEN CATEGORY OR MATE CATEGORY AT SELECTION EVENTS?

To gain selection points towards the 2012 International Triathlon Union World Championships you need to race the selection events in your age group category and not in the open, teams or mates categories etc. You will not be given any points if you race outside your age category at selection events.

ARE ANY SELECTION RACES WORTH DOUBLE SELECTION POINTS?

The Australian National Championships will allow athletes the opportunity to gain double points towards selection.

Duathlon: Barossa Valley, SA 16^th October 2011

Olympic distance: Mooloolaba, QLD 25^th March 2012

Sprint distance: Canberra, ACT 29^th January 2012

HOW MANY SELECTION RACES DO I NEED TO COMPETE IN?

You can compete in as many selection events that you would like. The Triathlon Australia Selection Committee will take your selection points from your best three results in the selection events. For example if you compete in the Olympic distance ACT selection event and achieve a 1st place, SA Olympic distance selection event and achieved a 14^th place, WA Olympic distance selection event and achieved a 4^th place and the VIC Olympic distance selection event where you achieved a 17^th place the selection committee will only take your selection points from the ACT, WA and SA selection events. They will not take you VIC Olympic distance selection event 17^th place.

WHEN WILL THE PRELIMINARY TEAM BE ANNOUNCED?

The preliminary 2012 Australian Age Group Teams will be placed on the Triathlon Australia website www.triathlon.org.au

Duathlon, France: Monday the 23^rd of April 2012 at 4pm AEDST

Sprint Distance, New Zealand: Monday the 23^rd of April at 4pm AEDST

Olympic Distance, New Zealand: Monday the 23^rd of April at 4pm AEDST
