Which level would suit me?
The Triathlon Australia coach Training, Education and Development (TED) syllabus is designed to introduce coaches to the basic principles of all aspects of triathlon coaching then progress them systematically to provide coaches with the ideal opportunity and learning environment for continuous improvement.
Level 0 – Tri-Skills Coach
Target Market: The level 0 coaching course is aimed at parents, teachers and club members who wish to work with children or novice level triathletes. The focus of coaching at this level is on enjoyment, skills, safety and engaging appropriately with children and novice triathletes: fun, family and fitness.
Course Duration: The level 0 course is a 1-day course
Course Facilitation: The level 0 program is driven, co-ordinated and managed by each State and Territory Association.
Entry Requirement: Please note you must be 16 years or above to be eligible to attend the level 0 coaching course.
How do I register for a level 0 course?
Please contact your State or Territory Association for the date and venue of a level 0 coaching course.
Level 1 – Club/State Coach
Target Market: The level one coaching course is aimed at coaches working with beginner, club and state level triathletes. There is a strong emphasis on skills and learning: laying the foundations for triathletes of all ages.
Course Duration: The level 1 course is a 2-day course and has a mixture of theory and practical/hands on coaching.
Course Facilitation: The level 1 program is driven, co-ordinated and managed by each State and Territory Association.
Entry Requirement: Please note you must be 18 years or above to be eligible to attend the level 1 coaching course.
How do I register for a level 1 course?
Please contact your State or Territory Association for the date and venue of a level 1 coaching course.
Level 2 – National Coach
Target Market: The level 2 coaching course is aimed at coaches working with national level triathletes with the aim to progressing their athletes to an international standard.
Course Duration: The level 2 course is a national program held over 4 ½ days and is conducted every two years.
Course Facilitation: The level 2 course is driven, coordinated and managed by Triathlon Australia.
Entry Requirements: Level 2 candidates must have held a level 1 accreditation for a minimum of 2 years and been actively coaching. All level 2 candidates must be endorsed by their respective State and Territory Association to attend the course.
How do I register for a level 2 course?
Triathlon Australia conducts all level 2 coaching courses. Please keep an eye out on the Triathlon Australia website for details outlining the next level 2 coaching course.
Level 3 – Elite Coach
Target Market: The level 3 coaching course is aimed at coaches working with elite international level triathletes.
Course Duration: The level 3 coaching course is a 12-month course "book-ended" with 2 x 3 day live in periods. The level 3 coaching course is conducted every 2 years It will also involve being mentored by a suitably qualified high performance coach.
Course Facilitation: The level 3 coaching course is driven, coordinated and managed by Triathlon Australia.
Entry Requirements: To be eligible for this course coaches will be required to meet performance criteria and must apply directly to Triathlon Australia. Candidate’s eligibility will be assessed by the Triathlon Australia High Performance Team. Applicants will also need to have held a current level 2 triathlon coaching accreditation for a minimum of 2 years and been actively coaching elite triathletes.
How do I register for a level 3 course?
Triathlon Australia conducts all level 3 coaching courses. To be eligible for the level 3 coaching course applicants must apply directly to the National Manager Coach Development at Triathlon Australia.
Level 4 – High Performance Coach
Target Market: The level 4 coaching course is aimed at coaches who work with elite ITU draft legal triathletes only. Coaches must have consistently placed athletes onto elite teams at World Championships, Commonwealth Games or Olympics Games in the past 3 years and be focused on working with the Triathlon Australia High Performance Program to achieve its stated vision and objectives. This is a national course based on personal professional development and candidates need to apply directly to the Triathlon Australia National Performance Director (NPD). The NPD will co-ordinate a High Performance Coaching Panel to select and oversee this program.
Course Duration: The level 4 coaching course is held over 12 to 18 months and includes professional and personal development.
Course Facilitation: The level 4 coaching course is driven, coordinated and managed by Triathlon Australia.
Entry Requirements: Coaches must have consistently placed athletes onto elite teams at World Championships, Commonwealth Games or Olympics Games in the past 3 years and be focused on working with the Triathlon Australia High Performance Program to achieve its stated vision and objectives. Candidates need to apply directly to the Triathlon Australia National Performance Director (NPD). Applicants must have held a current level 3 triathlon coaching accreditation (ITU Draft Legal) and actively coaching elite ITU draft legal triathletes.
