ITU Race Entry Process
For all ITU World Series and ITU World Cup races, athletes can only be entered via the National Federation rather than the individual athlete. This is the same for Continental Cup and Continental Championship races although in these instances often the athlete is required to enter via the specific event website in addition.
Triathlon Australia has set a nomination and selection process that athletes must follow if they wish to be entered into any ITU events.
Nomination and Selection Process
To submit their wish to race, an athlete must send in a nomination to both the High Performance Administrator and the National Performance Director (NPD). The nomination should be via email and simply state their wish to be entered into a particular race. The nomination process is outlined as follows:
1/ ITU Continental Cup/Continental Championships Races: THERE WILL BE NO call for nominations. It will be the athlete's responsibility to nominate to TA prior to 45 days out from the intended competition date. TA selectors will finalise selection of athletes based on the TA Selection policy 40 days from competition date. Athletes will be asked to confirm their selection 35 days from competition date. TA will enter selected athletes as per ITU entry rules prior to 33 days from the competition date.
2/ ITU World Cup (WC) and World Series (WCS): TA will call for nominations 45 days from the intended competition date. TA selectors will finalise selection of athletes based on the TA selection policy 40 days from competition date. Athletes will be asked to confirm their selection 35 days from competition date. TA will enter selected athletes as per ITU entry rules prior to 33 days from competition date.
If for any reason an athlete cannot compete in any race that they have nominated for and TA has entered them in as per the ITU entry rules then that athlete must notify both the High Performance Administrator and the National Performance Director to make the withdrawal as soon as the athlete has decided to withdraw. Any consequence of an athlete withdrawal will be as per the TA Selection policy.
Eligibility for Nomination
To be eligible to nominate for consideration of selection in an ITU WC or ITU WS event, athletes must have achieved the following criteria a minimum of forty (40) days prior to the relevant event being nominated:
(i) ITU WS Events: Top 75 on the ITU Points Ranking; or minimum of one podium finish in a ITU WC race within the last 12 months.
(ii) ITU WC Events: Top 125 on the ITU Points Ranking; or minimum of one podium finish in a Continental Cup race within the last 12months.
