2013 National Cross Triathlon Championships
Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa
NSW: 9th & 10th March, 2013
The iconic Thredbo Valley in the Snowy Mountains is set to play host to the newly announced 2013 Australian Cross Triathlon Championships.
The Evolution of Cross Triathlon
Cross Triathlon has been simmering on the fringe of Australian sport for some time now, and with Triathlon Australia’s announcement of the 2013 Australian Cross Triathlon Championships, OFF-ROAD is rapidly becoming the ONLY ROAD for many triathletes.
The National Cross Triathlon Championships is part of the national Tre-X Off Road Triathlon Series and will be one of Australia’s most uniquely challenging off-road events. It takes triathlon and mixes it with a huge helping of grit, dirt and hardcore action as competitors tackle a combination of Swim, Mountain Bike and Trail Run.
Race Director, Simon Lazenby told us that, “Taking triathlon off road adds an all new element of excitement to the sport. Unlike road triathlons, a mountain bike course is very different every time you ride it. It requires a combination of skill, speed, strength and strategy to stay at the pointy end of the field. The weather, track conditions and terrain make the riding very different every time. The trail run incorporates diverse terrain including trails, tracks, creeks, steep craggy ascents and rocky scrambles which means that competitors must stay focussed every step of the way. It will take a true champion to take home the title as Australia’s Cross-Triathlon Champion.”
Lake Crackenback Resort: An Adventure Playground
Lake Crackenback resort nestled in the Thredbo Valley will provide an iconic backdrop for Australia’s Cross Triathlon Championships. Beautiful Lake Crackenback will host the swim leg. The mountain bike leg will be staged on the diverse combination of mountain bike trails that surround the resort. And the trail run will include some of Australia’s most unique and spectacular scenery which will make it a real treat for international visitors.
With Race HQ based at Lake Crackenback Resort competitors and spectators can combine a weekend of hardcore off-road racing with all the luxury of this fabulous 4.5-star resort.
Australian Championships
The championships are sanctioned by Triathlon Australia and will be the qualifying round for the ITU World Cross Triathlon Championships held in The Hague, Netherlands in July 2013. Winners will take home the title as Australia’s National Champion. Sprint distance, Junior and Trail Run events will also be staged throughout the weekend.
It’s set to be an adrenalin packed weekend of ‘not to be missed’ off-road action as we search for Australia’s Cross-Triathlon Champion.
