Australian Paratriathlon and Intellectual Impairment Championships
2022 event scheduled 24th April 2022 | Gold Coast Performance Centre, Runaway Bay
The Australian Paratriathlon and Intellectual Impairment Championships to be located at Runaway Bay are a great chance for athletes to race in a format that will make for an exciting contest. The Australian Championships weekend will also host a National Classification Opportunity beginning on Saturday 23rd April.

Athlete times will be combined across two shorter races to crown our overall Australian Champions. There will also be an opportunity for those to participate in one shorter race to allow for athletes who want to get a taste of paratriathlon at a great facility such as the Gold Coast Performance Centre.

ATHLETE CLASSES
Classes will be as follows and will complete x 2 waves, with both times combined to crown the overall Australian Champions. Minimum age 14 years old as of December 31st 2021.
PTWC, PTS2, PTS3, PTS4, PTS5, PTVIParalympic categories (must have at least a National Provisional License to race in this category and race both waves of the super-sprint to gain title)
TWD (Triathlete with Disability)
An athlete without classification that has impairment may chose to race in the TWD wave. This will put all athletes in this class, irrespective of impairment racing to TWD title.
II (Intellectual Impairment)
For classified athletes with Virtus II-1/2 classification and are listed on the II Sport Inclusion Australia master list.
Junior Athletes (Under 14 as at 31.12.2021)
There is also ability for junior athletes to do the first race only. This is aimed giving juniors the chance to participate in a fun triathlon and get racing experience.
ADVICE FOR ATHLETES RACING IN THE INTELLECTUAL IMPAIRMENT CATEGORY
Athletes that are intending to race at the National Triathlon Championships on April 24th in the Intellectual Impairment wave must be registered on the sport inclusion master list. This can be viewed via the link below. You must be a Triathlon Australia member to medal at this race.
Eligibility - Sport Inclusion Australia
Athletes have up unto 2 weeks out from the race start to obtain classification. All athletes who do not have classification will be placed in triathlete with disability category (TWD).
Athletes will be in Virtus II -1/2 classification as shown here. They will compete for one title. Athletes in Virtus II-3 will race in the TWD class.
All athletes need to be able to swim, bike and run in a competent manner that is safe and without assistance.
If an athlete requires assistance on course, this is to be noted in email form to kyle.burns@triathlon.org.au for assessment. All requests will be considered in view of the fairness and safety. Athletes will be notified of availability to action any requests in consultation with race officials.
