National Talent Academy
The National Talent Academy (NTA) is aimed at the ACT Junior Development Squad. It is for them to go and enhance their talents at a higher level. The NTA provides athletes a week long training course (during school holidays) for them to gain a broader knowledge into how they can become a better athlete.
The NTA has strict commitments needed to be abided by, by the athlete. The athletes will commit to a training program (set out by the National Talent Coach (NTC)), also they will commit to the NTA racing program.
To become apart of the NTA the athletes need to prove they are eligible to become apart of the NTA. Athletes must be eligible to compete in either of the;
- 2013 Australian ITU Junior Triathlon Series Age 16-19 as at 31/12/2013 (i.e. born in the years 1994, 1995, 1996 or 1997) OR
- 2013 ITU Oceania Triathlons Races including but not limited to races such as Geelong, Devonport, & Mooloolaba.
- Athletes must be financial members of Triathlon Australia.
- Athletes must be working with a NCAS accreditated coach.
- Be prepared to undergo a number of physiological assessments including V02max tests etc.
NTA SELECTION CRITERIA - AUTOMATIC
ITU Junior Athletes that have met both the NPS times of 90% in the 1km Swim
and 92% in the 5km Run.
- Females 1km SWIM – 13:20
- Females 5km RUN – 17:23
- Males 1km SWIM – 12:35
- Males 5km RUN – 15:13
U23 Athletes that have met both the NPS times of 92% in the 1km Swim and
94% in the 5km Run.
- Females 1km SWIM – 13:02
- Females 5km RUN – 17:01
- Males 1km SWIM – 12:19
- Males 5km RUN – 14:53
Elite Athletes that have met both the NPS times of 94% in the 1km Swim and
96% in the 5km Run.
- Females 1km SWIM – 12:45
- Females 5km RUN – 16:40
- Males 1km SWIM – 12:03
- Males 5km RUN – 14:35
Athletes who do not meet the NTA automatic selection criteria standards (as above) may be invited at the discretion of the NTC in consultation with the NMAD.The next step in the development pathway for NTA athletes is the NTA Young Guns international tour. This program allows current NTA triathletes to experience international competition at a level suitable to their development.
