Independant race directors, triathlon clubs and other organisations may seek event sanctioning through Triathlon ACT.
Sanctioning is the process by which triathlons and related events (including duathlons, aquathlons, multisport events and lake swims) are officially approved by Triathlon ACT and Triathlon Australia. Such approval means that the event plan has met all the necessary requirements for it to be deemed a safe and fair race.
An event sanctioned by Triathlon Australia, through Triathlon ACT, is covered by Triathlon Australia's general insurance policy. If event participants are not members of Triathlon ACT/Triathlon Australia they are required to purchase a One Race Membership ($5-$20).
In addition to sanctioning, an event organiser must seek the approval from relevant government organisations to use the water, land and roads within the ACT. Approvals may be required from the Australian Federal Police, ACT Roads, Parks & Places, the National Capital Authority or ACT Forrests.
