Independant racedirectors, triathlon clubs and other organisations may seek eventsanctioning through Triathlon ACT.
Sanctioning is the process bywhich triathlons and related events (including duathlons, aquathlons, multisport events and lake swims) are officially approved by Triathlon ACT andTriathlon Australia. Such approval means that the event plan has met allthe necessary requirements for it to be deemed a safe and fair race.
An event sanctioned byTriathlon Australia, through Triathlon ACT, is covered by Triathlon Australia'sgeneral insurance policy. If event participants are not members ofTriathlon ACT/Triathlon Australia they are required to purchase a One RaceMembership ($6-$15).
In addition to sanctioning, anevent organiser must seek the approval from relevant governmentorganisations to use the water, land and roads within the ACT. Approvalsmay be required from the Australian Federal Police, ACT Roads, Parks & Places, the National Capital Authority or ACT Forrests.
