Triathlon NSW is pleased to announce the NSW Development Pathway for 2016/17 season and open nominations for the respective squads.
Mick Delamotte, TNSW Coach Education and Junior Development Manager explains the Development Pathway below.
A key objective of the Triathlon NSW Development Pathway is to be fully aligned with the National Athlete Pathway Framework for High Performance through skills progression".
The Development Pathway is a tiered structure that supports multiple levels of development to assist identified athletes from Club and individually coached programs to the level where, based on talent and performance, they may be eventually selected into Triathlon Australia’s National Talent Academy, or beyond.
We have opened the door for a more inclusive Talent Identification Program primarily for youth based athletes. Clinics will be provided in metro and regional NSW, with athletes having the opportunity to attend single discipline and multi discipline clinics to gain best bang for buck.
The Emerging Talent Squad will be a selective camp based program, primarily for ITU Juniors. In addition, the newly created U23 Development Program for emerging athletes will assist with the transition from Juniors to Open Elite racing.
We are also committed to engaging further with the coaching community within NSW and support 'home' programs and their Junior athletes. It is recognised that our best Juniors are produced within junior focused daily training environments and we would like to grow these environments in both quality and quantity within the State over the years ahead.
I am looking forward to the diversity of athlete's applying for the NSW programs this season. I am expecting applications from current and new triathletes across the State which is exciting for the sport nationally.
