Triathlon in NSW is lucky to have many clubs who provide racing, training, social events and much more to over 4000 members!
One of these is Bondi Running & Triathlon Club (BRAT), who has just joined the 300+ member club, an exclusive group of clubs in Australia. They join Warringah Triathlon Club as the only other club in NSW who are currently sitting above 300 annual members for season 2022/2023!
Triathlon NSW spoke to Jeremy Garling, President of BRAT Club, about the significance of this milestone, how they’ve reached it and how they plan on improving the club into the future.
TriNSW: Congratulations on reaching the 300 member milestone! What does this achievement mean to you and the committee?
JG: 300 members was our aim for the last few years as The BRAT Club aims to return to the leading triathlon club in Australia. The growth has been steady over the past few years and we have put systems in place, carefully looked at the culture to ensure we have a sustainable future. It is a great time to be a BRAT with huge numbers at sessions which ensures there is a level for everyone. The club is diverse and social, meaning new members will fit right in.
TriNSW: How have you reached this point? Is there anything in particular that has helped with the growth of BRAT club?
JG: BRATs is a diverse, social group that welcomes triathletes, and aspiring ones, of all levels. Our growth is a reflection of every aspect of the club working together:
1. Professionally designed coaching for every session.
2. Welcoming Committee and BRAT Leaders that ensure new members settle in and get the most out of the club, welcoming all levels with a diverse and social atmosphere.
3. Great kit that everyone wears with pride and kept in stock, so people can join and get their kit on straight away.
4. Our Try A Tri 8 week program has been hugely successful, timed with our BRAT races and members ensuring these future stars stay with the club.
5. Our Eastern Triathlon Series with big prize money has taken our profile to the next level.
TriNSW: What do you see are the main benefits of joining a triathlon club?
JG: Training with BRATs means a safe, supportive and social environment that redefines what you can achieve across swim, bike and run. Make friends, learn from each other and go much further with BRAT and a triathlon club than doing it on your own. Through the experience of many we become better as one, so keep your eye on the podium or finishing that longer race because at BRATs you can!
TriNSW: What is your vision for the club moving forward?
JG: The Committee wants BRATs to be the leading triathlon club in Australia and are well advanced on our journey to 500 members. Our BRAT+ offering ensures a premium delivery for those needing to improve one area of their skills. Our social events are the highlight on the local calendar and fun for everyone and we continue to instill a safety first culture.
Our recent segments on The Today Show represented triathlon at its best and encourages people from all backgrounds to get involved, get healthy in a safe outdoor environment and make friends along the way.
There is no better time to join a triathlon club.
