Balmoral strike first in the Sydney North

The Balmoral Purple Cobras have raced out to an early lead in the Sydney North Metro Interclub Series.

Balmoral descended upon a wet and windy Sydney Olympic Park this past weekend in large numbers to ensure Round 1 was an encouraging one for those in purple.

Ingrid Mcphee and Gerald Renton started their seasons with a bang, both securing first place in their age group and two valuable points for the Purple Cobras.

A 3rd place for Quentin Schneider, a 4th placed finish for Nicola Hutchinson and a 5th for Laura Van Honert and Tom Holland kept the points coming for Balmoral, with Danielle Matthews, Bel Fong, Seamus Fingleton and David Fell also contributing performance points for the Purple Cobras thanks to top ten finishes.

Warringah Waves find themselves 5.5 points behind their long-term rivals after Round 1 but still enjoyed a successful day out, one they will look to build on in Round 2 at the Nepean Triathlon in Penrith.

A 1st placed finish for the ever-impressive Phoebe Fear and three second place finishes, kept Balmoral firmly within Warringah’s sight. Nicole Ward, John Ketelbey and Graeme Beattie will be delighted with their early season podiums.

Stephanie Hill, Emily Washbrook and Ian Kennedy also showed strong early season form with top ten finishes in their age group to add to the Wave’s tally for the day.

A tough start for the Northern Suburb Mighty Mites won’t dampen their hopes of enjoying a successful season. Carly Bull and Jonathon Forrest ensured that NSTC registered points for Round 1 with an 8th and 10th placed finish respectively.

Nepean will host Round 2 of the Sydney North Interclub, quickly followed by Round 3 at Kurnell.

Balmoral will be hoping for more of the same, Warringah will have other ideas whilst NSTC, they will be intent on rallying to make sure the Sydney North remains a three-horse race.
