On the back of the West Metro Race in January earlier this year, the clubs in the Eastern Metropolitan of Sydney have come together to form the inaugural East Metro Interclub Championships, which will take place on Sunday the 26th of February.
The exciting new initiative will take place at the north end of Price Charles Parade, Kurnell, NSW, and will be contested by members from clubs such as BRATS, Coogee and Sydney Triathlon Group and T4.
For an entry fee of just $20 for adults and $10 for juniors, and a distance of a 750km swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run, the East Metro Interclub Championships is one of the best value sprint races in all of NSW and one that should not be missed.
The event is sure to be a raging success, however it would not have got off the ground if it weren’t for the productive collaboration and combined efforts of all of the clubs in the Eastern Sydney region at the recent Sydney East Metro Regional Forum and Workshop.
The East Metro Interclub Championships is an extension of the Coogee v BRATS invitational race, whereby the Coogee Triathlon Club has revamped the event to invite other Eastern Suburbs based clubs such as Sydney Triathlon Group and T4.
“We’ve found the club forums to be a really productive vehicle in getting the clubs in a particular region to work together more collaboratively,” said Sport Development and Community Programs Manager Chris Cunningham.
“The more the clubs interact and assist each other, the better it is for the growth and development of the sport of Triathlon.
“The East Metro Interclub Championships promises to be a wonderful event for triathletes in the East of Sydney, where they can proudly represent their club in a fun environment.
“It is our hope that the East Metro Interclub Championships, along with the West Metro Race, become staple events on the Triathlon NSW calendar year in, year out. We will continue to work closely with other regions to replicate events like this all over the state.”
Following the conclusion of the race, all competitors, volunteers, friends and family, will put their rivalries aside to enjoy a barbeque hosted by the Coogee Triathlon Club.
