From the CEO Adam Wicks – How has your membership money been spent?

As we come to the conclusion of another bumper season, we wanted to thank you for your ongoing commitment to the sport of triathlon.  And given it’s the membership income paid by you, our member, that allows our organisation to exist, we felt the conclusion of another season was a good time to provide you an insight into some key activities being delivered to benefit the sport of triathlon in NSW for our clubs and their members.

Triathlon NSW is excited to be working on a new initiative for the 2018/2019 season – a series of Regional Interclub competitions utilising pre-existing events and races already delivered around the state.

The concept was born from a very simple realisation in the Triathlon NSW office that our members are seeking more local opportunities to pull on their club kit and race, earn points for their clubs and travel with friends to events. Triathlon NSW affiliated clubs remains the centre of our sport, the heartbeat of our connectedness and integral to our long-term success.

Further to this, Triathlon Australia and Triathlon NSW are in the process of further investing into online resources and tools which will provide further support to our volunteer committees, who are donating their time for the betterment of the sport.  This will assist us towards delivering Triathlon Australia’s Strategic Plan objective of ensuring ‘A sport of thriving clubs’.

Triathlon NSW has invested into Junior Development this year, by engaging the services of a Junior Development Officer. Through this part time resource, we have been able to work closely with Weetbix and through a series of school activations, assist in driving over 3,000 new juniors to ‘dip their toe’ into the triathlon water, and complete their first event. This is simply one of many strong outcomes to grow juniors in this state.

Triathlon NSW has continued to deliver a highly successful Junior Development Squad program, running development camps, clinics and tours for athletes to travel around Australia (and NZ) furthering their experience racing under ITU rules and ensuring a pathway for our highest performing juniors to have a shot at pulling on the green and gold in the future.

Lastly, we have continued to work with Race Directors around NSW, to ensure they are delivering safe, fair and equitable races for our members. Through our custom built Online Sanctioning Platform, we have been able to streamline the process for Race Directors and clubs, who are integral to creating start lines, that our clubs drive members towards.

Whilst we could certainly continue with more examples of the great work being done by the Triathlon NSW staff, this has just been an overview, to provide an insight into where your membership money goes.

A reminder to all clubs that on the 1st April 2018, Triathlon Australia launched their 15-month membership which is the ideal option for anyone new to the sport. And annual membership across Australia is up for renewal on the 1st July 2018.

We look forward to seeing all our wonderful members returning for a hugely successful 2018 / 2019 season full of friendship, health benefits and great times!

CEO, Adam Wicks
