Triathlon NSW is proud to announce the latest round of grant recipients as part of their 'Finish Lines, not Finish Times' initiative. The TNSW program is designed to assist our affiliated clubs to reduce barriers to participation and promote inclusive sport experiences for women and girls, thanks to funding from the NSW Office of Sport 'Her Sport Her Way' program.
Triathlon NSW is thrilled to offer 22 clubs with funding to host women's only events. 16 of the 22 clubs are based in regional and rural New South Wales, including Scone Triathlon Club in the Upper Hunter and Bathurst Club in the states Central West. After an incredibly successful event last year, Scone Triathlon Club have once again received funding.
Club President Nicky Western praised the steps taken by TNSW to encourage the participation of women in the sport.
"The funding we received last season enabled Scone tri club to deliver a fantastic training program followed by a social participation event for females who wanted to give triathlon a go. The participants really appreciated the opportunity to ask questions, take things at their own pace and be fully supported to complete a triathlon with other first timers. It’s a great initiative and we thank Triathlon NSW for being so proactive at breaking down the barriers that put females off taking up the sport of triathlon".

The increase of applications highlights the need and popularity for women's only sporting environments.
"The benefits of increased female participation are so far-reaching and include benefits of improved fitness and confidence for individual women, and the benefits related to positive role-modelling. Women have great influence on those around them – their families, friends, co-workers and the wider community. Training hard to participate in your first triathlon requires women to prioritise time for themselves to work towards their goal. And then seeing them achieve that goal amongst friends – new and old – is a really special part of our Tri Club. We are excited to see many new women achieve their goals this year. Anything is possible when we support each other", says the Bathurst Club Sponsorship Coordinator, Anna Blackie.

Triathlon NSW CEO Adam Wicks was extremely excited by the significant increase in the quantity and quality of applications that flowed from all areas of the state seeking funding.
“This program has a proven track record of engaging new females to try their first triathlon and beyond their initial participation, become part of our community - going on to do other events and join our clubs. I have no doubt this program will achieve similar results. Everything about this program is what Triathlon NSW prides itself on - we exist to support local clubs with programs and strategies to engage with their local community and encourage participation, which leads to membership growth. I’d like to extend my thanks to the volunteers of our clubs who will now go and do the ‘on the ground work’ to create, deliver and promote these events".
