The Inspire 2 Tri (I2T) program was developed by Triathlon NSW to Inspire the Next Generation of female coaches in NSW, and is funded through the NSW Office Of Sport, Her Sport Her Way grant program.
The leadership & mentoring program is designed to empower and support females to take the leap into triathlon coaching, and progress through the coaching pathway - where it aims to balance the gender representation in coaching, particularly in the higher coaching levels where female representation dramatically declines.
Launching on International Women’s Day Wednesday 8th March with an online component addressing the barriers to progression that were identified within the group, the online sessions have been run by NSW Female Performance Coaches who have supported the new coaches throughout the process as mentors and role models. Other successful coach and athlete guest speakers have joined in some of the sessions, to further inspire and educate the cohort and share their experiences with the group.
KNOX Grammar School hosted the Foundation Coaching Course face-to-face practical session last weekend, where 11 new female Foundation Coaches completed the practical component of the course, successfully fulfilling accreditation for this level. I2T will continue with ongoing mentoring and support to assist the coaches in their new coaching roles, and with another successful grant just announced - will be able to provide opportunities for further progression next season.
This inaugural intake of Foundation Coaches has increased current female Foundation coaches in NSW from 49% to 53% - a fantastic way to kick off the new program.
