Junior triathletes continue to develop in the Central West

Below is a report from Coach Mel Ashton-Garard the cycle skills clinic conducted in Orange with the Orange & Mudgee Junior triathletes on 24 June 2017:

Orange skills clinic 2

On a brisk Saturday morning in June, junior triathletes from Mudgee & Orange converged on the new home of Orange Triathlon, Gosling Creek.

Although too cold to swim, the triathletes took part in the Orange Park Run and transitioned into improving their cycle skills.

Whilst several athletes are quite experienced roller riders, some juniors were tackling them for the first time.  At the conclusion of the clinic, all triathletes were able to ride the rollers but still needed more experience to master them.

The triathletes divided into groups and tackled other cycle skills such as hill climbing, descending, u-turns, riding in a bunch and track standing.  There was even an opportunity for the young triathletes to obtain draft legal endorsement (if competent).

The objective of the clinic was to improve cycle skills but perhaps more importantly to foster relationships between young triathletes in the Central West NSW.

There will be further development opportunities for junior triathletes in the Central West of NSW:

  • Saturday 16th September – cycle & run clinic at Gosling Creek
  • Saturday 14th October – cycle & run clinic + super sprint triathlon or MTR at Gosling Creek
  • Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th November – TNSW Super Sprint junior weekend at Gosling Creek
  • Saturday 9th December – development clinics + super sprint triathlon or MTR at Gosling Creek
