Saturday 11th February at Gunnamatta Bay – Cronulla Tri Club’s Richie Walker Aquathlon.
If the date and venue is not yet on your radar, we are about to give you even more reasons to put the date into your shared calendars with loved ones and ensure you are registered and on the start line for one of NSW’s favourite community events.
A recent decision from Canberra Multisport Events to cancel the Wollongong Aquathon has opened up the door for the RWA to gain even more reasons for you to enter!
As such, Triathlon NSW can confirm that this event will now also be the Triathlon NSW Individual Aquathlon State Championships.
The State Championships will be awarded to the first 2022/2023 Triathlon Australia / NSW Standard (or premium) member in Junior A (17 – 19) and in the Open Category. The first member across the line in each age category (5 years) for both Male and Female in the 1km Swim/5km Run event will be crowed NSW State Champion.
Basic and Social Memberships do not qualify for State Champs but if you wish to upgrade, feel free to reach out to the office (see "contact us" page) and we can work through that administration with you!
World Champs Qualifier- Townsville 2024 and NSW Interclub Series point scoring event.
The 1km Swim/5km Run event already features points for those seeking to qualify for the ‘Green and Gold’ at Townsville 2024 and is a performance and participation points earner for the Sydney Triathlon Premier League and Sydney Triathlon League 1. It's the ideal place to pick up some Individual Most Valuable Performer (MVP) and club points for your club.
Significance and History of the Richie Walker Aquathlon
This race is dedicated to the memory of Richie Walker, a promising Cronulla Triathlon Club member who tragically and suddenly passed due to a heart attack during a race in Tamworth.
The race is organised and run by volunteers, and the Cronulla Triathlon Club is a not-for-profit organisation. They are committed to creating an opportunity for all athletes, from World Champions to weekend warriors, first timers and kids to compete against one another in a fun, organised and safe environment.
All profits are donated in Richie's name to The Heart Foundation assisting their research into the causes and cures of heart disease http://www.heartfoundation.org.au/. To date over $100,000 has been donated to the cause by the Cronulla Triathlon Club.
There are so many reasons to make the journey south, west or north to this truly iconic event at a beautiful race venue!
