NSW athletes set to line up at the Multisport World Championships

The Spanish city of Pontevedra welcomes the world’s best for the Multisport World Championships. Among the thousands competing are NSW triathletes Jasmine Eden-Gray and Kurt Fryer. Jasmine will compete in the aquathlon while Kurt is looking to tackle the duathlon world championship event.

Worldclass fields of para and elite athletes are inbound to the north-west of Spain to contest across five ITU World Championships at the 2019 Pontevedra ITU Multisport World Championships. The schedule includes a duathlon, cross triathlon, aquathlon, aquabike and the showcase long distance triathlon.

Praza da Ferrería, known for its fine selection of cafes in town, is a hub of Pontevedra social life and will transform into the heart of the festival.

What: 2019 Pontevedra ITU Multisport World Championships

Duathlon (run | bike | run) on Friday, April 26, Para Duathlon and Junior racing on Saturday, April 28
Cross Triathlon (swim | mountain bike | trail run) on Tuesday, April 30
Aquathlon (swim | run) on Thursday, May 2
Aquabike (swim | bike) on Saturday May 4
Long Distance Triathlon (Swim | Bike | Run) on Saturday, May 4

Each event is made up of various categories including elite, U23, junior, paratriathlon, age-group as well as an open wave.

Where: Pontevedra, Spain

Who: Approximately 4,000 athletes will represent 52 countries and regions in competition. Great Britain will have the largest team with 927 competing athletes set to start, while Spain, the host country has 752 athletes, Team USA has 751, Portugal 190 and Brazil has 161 participating athletes. Other nations proudly representing include Australia, Canada, Japan, France and Mexico, all well represented across the fields.
