Newcastle Fitness Festival to kick off with Island Triathlon

The City of Newcastle Fitness Festival kicks off on 3-5 Feb 2023 with the first of 4 separate events covering swimming, cycling, running, walking, aquathlon and paratriathlon. The events, which are backed by the City of Newcastle major events funding, will generate over $3 million in economic benefit to the area, attracting over 5000 athletes and their support crews to the City of Newcastle.

ISLAND TRIATHLON AND OCEANIA PARATRIATHLON- Stockton Foreshore (3-5 February)

The swim in the Harbour and cycle around the Stockton peninsula is a beautiful setting for the Island Triathlon and Oceania Paratriathlon Championships. The action will kick off on the evening of Friday 3rd February with the Stockton Sunset Run and an Aquathlon (750m Swim/5km Run) on Saturday before the feature triathlon events on super Sunday.

The Newcastle Oceania Paratriathlon Championships have been a stepping stone for Australia’s emerging paratriathletes to achieve success internationally, headlined by local World Champion, Lauren Parker (Maitland Triathlon Club), who is looking to make it 4 titles in a row in Stockton. On the same day, the Island Triathlon will offer both Standard and Sprint distance options to the masses on a spectacular course.

Event organiser Paul Humphreys of H Events said “we are so excited to produce these events in Newcastle. There is a genuine desire in Newcastle for events that promote health, fitness and diversity, and we are glad to work with the local Council events team, support groups, charities and suppliers to present these 4 events”. The events combine to attract a varied cohort of recreational, elite and athletes with a disability and showcase the iconic sites of Newcastle including Bar Beach, King Edward Park, Newcastle Beach, Nobbys Beach and Macquarie Pier, Market St Lawns and Queens Wharf, Honeysuckle, Newcastle Marina, Carrington and Stockton.

The Newcastle Fitness Festival will continue with the NewRun Running Festival on April 2 and 16.
