Stronger Clubs through Regional Forums

Membership and Participation Manager, Chris Cunningham has been on the road this month bringing Clubs together by facilitating Regional Development Forums.

The Forums provides Clubs with a platform to discuss strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats affecting them and the Sport in their region, and also encourages Clubs to work together to strengthen the Sport.Forums will be held a minimum of once a year and are open to all committee members from Triathlon NSW affiliated clubs within the region of the forum.

The inaugural Forums with Sydney North Metro and Sydney West Metro Regional Cluster Clubs provided participants with an opportunity to speak to Triathlon NSW CEO and staff, Julie Hunziker of Achieve Sports who is providing additional TRYStars programs in the Regional Cluster areas, and provider of the Active Membership System and registration IT system - Active.

Discussion points also included an introduction and update on Junior Development Programs, inclusion of a Regional Cluster Championship/Series, and an update on Community Engagement initiatives.

"I am confident that the introduction of Regional Clusters and Regional Development Committees will encourage cross club engagement and strengthen club spirit through ‘friendly’ inter Region Cluster rivalry. It will also support effective communication and education of Clubs on Triathlon NSW systems, policies and procedures," said Chris Cunningham.

In-line with Triathlon Australia’s new Strategic Plan, Regional Clusters though Regional Forums will support

Increased ENGAGEMENT for Triathlon Clubs with;

  • other Triathlon Clubs within close geographical proximity
  • triathlon NSW staff (Club Development and Program Delivery Coordinator, Communications and Marketing Manager, Events and Technical Manager)
  • NSW Sport and Recreation Government Officials
  • ACTIVE network (online club management and event registration program) staff members
  • local community (Schools, businesses, local residents)
  • other local sporting teams/clubs

Increased Triathlon Club ACCESS to;

  • funding application assistance due to relationships created with NSW Sport and Recreation Government Officials
  • advertising opportunities for club events and recruitment
  • event planning and sanctioning expertise
  • ACTIVE network training (ACTIVEWORKS ENDURANCE and ACTIVEWORKS ENDURANCE ONLINE SYSTEMS)
  • coach Education and Technical Official training opportunities
  • club education material and workshops based on current trends and industry needs adhering to state legislation

Increase opportunity PATHWAYS for Triathlon Clubs by;

  • creating Regional Championships
  • streamlining the delivery of TRYstars programs through a combined/individual club delivered approach or through a commercial provider delivery approach
  • closely aligning Region Clusters with local Junior Institutes/Academies of Sport
  • volunteer recognition schemes
  • community engagement opportunities to raise profile of clubs
  • providing newcomers to the sport a concise geographical index to find appropriate clubs, events or coaches

The next eight Regional Forums (excluding West and North Metro) are being planned. We are hunting for suitable venue, if you have any suggestions please contact Chris Cunningham or message Triathlon NSW on Facebook.
