Regrettably, the 2020 edition of the much-loved Richie Walker Aquathlon will be POSTPONED until Saturday March 21st.
After consultation with the Office of Environment & Heritage, Cronulla Triathlon Club with the full support of Triathlon NSW have made the difficult decision to postpone this Saturday’s race due to water quality concerns. Recent rainfall and predicted storm activity over the next few days has resulted in Gunnamatta Bay being deemed unfit for recreational activities.
This decision was not taken lightly, however the safety and health of our athletes and members must always take priority.
The new event in March will still be held in the same format and will remain the NSW State Aquathlon Championships, Age Group World Championships qualifying event (WQE) and State ITU Youth/Junior Aquathlon Championships, as well as an Interclub race for the Sydney leagues.
If you had not registered for the race but would like to enter for the new date in March, you can do so via the Cronulla Triathlon Club website.
Triathlon NSW would like to thank Cronulla Triathlon Club for their thorough and swift action in ensuring participant and member safety is at the forefront of their event organisation.
We understand this will be disappointing to our members and those travelling to compete. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to the new event in March.
If you have any questions, please direct all enquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org and the race team at CTC will endeavour to get back to you asap.
