TRIATHLON NSW PARTNERS WITH PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT INSIGHTS TO INVEST IN FUTURE GOLD IN THE MIXED TEAM RELAY

                             PDI sponsor

Triathlon NSW is excited to announce a new sponsorship agreement with Property Development Insights (PDI) which will allow a unique opportunity to invest into the future of NSW athletes as they strive for future Olympic, Commonwealth and World Championship gold in the Mixed Team Relay (MTR).

The Mixed Team Relay event has now been added to the Olympic program, on top of the World Triathlon Championships and Commonwealth Games. This was recently showcased in Australia in 2018, with our Aussie team winning Commonwealth Games gold in the event. Now, Triathlon NSW with the backing of PDI, has the opportunity to continue investing into NSW athlete’ representation in Australian MTR teams. It is fast, draft legal and super technical. It showcases racing at its most thrilling, with athletes’ individual skills now on the line with their teammates.

Among the most exciting aspects of these races for spectators is the athletes’ dramatic sprint and dive after their teammate finishes, as well as the intensity and speed from start to finish, the tight back-and-forth lead changes and team pride that this innovative racing format elicits.

This exciting event means that there are now more gold medal opportunities for Aussies in Tokyo and beyond. Triathlon NSW has included a Mixed Team Relay format in its Pathway racing schedule for a few years now to compliment the growing opportunities for our Juniors and U23’s at Mixed Team Relay Invitational events hosted by Triathlon Australia.

The upcoming TNSW Super Sprint Race Weekend, hosted by Orange Triathlon Club at Gosling Creek Reservoir, will once again host our State Mixed Team Relay Championships. Designed to expose our NSW athletes to this unique format of racing and provide them invaluable experience in this event, this weekend's event has the additional benefit of being the selection event for the Mixed Relay Teams.

TNSW prides itself on its ability to constantly evolve. Triathlon NSW Coach Education & Pathway Manager Mick Delamotte recently identified that further focus and investment into this type of racing was required, if our goal was to progress NSW athletes to make the team in Paris 2024, Los Angles 2028 & beyond.

Enter Property Development Insights and their Managing Director, Phillip Hoare. Phillip, himself a passionate short-course triathlete, sought out the opportunity to align PDI, which offer extensive experience and education through their real estate investment and property development courses, with the No 1. Triathlon NSW teams. Phillip has enthusiastically thrown his support behind our future stars which we are extremely grateful for.

When asked for a comment, Phlliip simply reiterated that Property Development Insights is delighted to be the inaugural sponsor of the Tri NSW Youth / Junior / U23 Elite Mixed Team Relay Teams, to support future young triathletes in their future quest for international and Olympic medals in this fast and furious race format.

The No 1. NSW MTR (2 males and 2 females) across the Junior, Youth and U23 divisions will be selected in Orange during the MTR races, on November 29th. The selection of these 12 athletes, which also factors in transition times as a key selection criteria, will occur as set out in the selection policy recently endorsed by the Triathlon NSW Board.

The inclusion of transition times in the selection process was deliberately done to place emphasis on the critical role transition skills plays in future MTR success and was acknowledged by athletes and their coaches. It’s the technical skills required to move between swim, bike and run fast and error-free that makes the Mixed Team Relay format so distinctly unique. Hence the additional focus on this ‘fourth discipline’ in the selection of the teams.

Mick Delamotte added his thoughts about the new initiative and partnership by stating, “I am thrilled at our investment and future initiatives planned for the Mixed Team Relay format. I am grateful for PDI’s support and we share equal excitement around what we have planned for this season and the future.

Mixed Team Relay racing is a legitimate championship event and requires its own set of technical skills, tactical nous and physiological demands that differ from the individual events. Having MTR’s as a focus within our State Pathway environment will provide our athletes new opportunities above and beyond individual race formats.”

Thanks to PDI, the No. 1 NSW team will be brought into a one day ‘MTR Masterclass’ in December, in anticipation of them competing in the Australian Youth & Junior Mixed Relay Championship in Canberra (17th January), and the Triathlon Australia MTR invitational event, currently pencilled in for June 2021 for our Junior & U23 Teams. Both events are, off course, pending COVID restrictions allowing them to occur. Also, the team will receive a unique and originally designed Triathlon Suit and Team Polo, to ensure they look and feel like the No. 1 NSW team. The PDI logo will be proudly displayed in their apparel, and the teams will be known as the
