The first Triathlon NSW Age group Member to cross the line will be the Triathlon NSW Individual Aquathon State Champion.
All non ITU groups (i.e. age group athletes) will be calculated as of 31 Dec 2019.
First age group will be 19 – 20 years old, and then in 5 year increments (male and female).
State ITU Youth/Junior Aquathon Championships
With the co-operation of Cronulla Triathlon Club Triathlon NSW has established a State Championship event for our ITU Youth & Junior athletes at the upcoming Richie Walker Memorial Aquathon to accompany the Age Group State Titles.
It is important we recognise our emerging talent across the State with an important addition to our Pathway event calendar. Our Youth A & B categories will be recognised along with our ITU Junior category in the swim/run format to accompany our already successful Super Sprint and Mixed Team Relay Championships.
TNSW Pathway Manager, Mick Delamotte, encourages all athletes across the state to take part in the event: "The majority of our Olympians have come from either swim or run backgrounds, and it is these disciplines we see as important focal areas to identify emerging talent moving forward.
The Richie Walker event is an ideal event in which to launch such an initiative, bringing open water skills and a dynamic cross country style run format that challenges athletes at all levels and simulates the demands typically seen in traditional triathlon races. Richie himself was a talented young athlete and this event seems a fitting launchpad for future talent identification as well."
The first three Triathlon NSW Members to cross the line will be the State ITU Youth / Junior Aquathon Champ. i.e. first, second and third.
This will be awarded in the following divisions*:
ITU YOUTH B - 11 - 12 years as at 31 Dec 19 - 250m swim, 1.6km run
ITU YOUTH A - 13 - 14 years as at 31 Dec 19 - 500m swim, 3.3km run
ITU JUNIOR** - 15 - 18 years as at 31 Dec 19 - 1000m swim, 5km run
*Note – YOUTH C – (7 – 10) years as at 31 Dec 19 will compete in a 100m swim, 750m run for novelty only, so no medals or state champion will be awarded.
**15 year olds to choose between Youth A/Junior however will only be eligible to win ITU Junior division.
