Triathlon NSW AGM Wrap-Up

The Triathlon NSW Annual General Meeting was held online on Wednesday 25th November 2020. Our thanks go out to the clubs who dialled in, asked questions and contributed to this important process.

Running as per the agenda circulated, the President’s Report, Executive Director’s report and Financial Report were all delivered and accepted. The Triathlon NSW Board reported a net surplus for the year ended 30 June 2020 of $137,946. This leaves the organisation in a strong position despite COVID-19 to further invest into the sport and clubs in the future.

The 2019/2020 Annual Report is available to everyone online and we encourage you all to take some time to read the reports - CLICK HERE. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Triathlon NSW Board, staff and the incredible volunteers who are so important to the delivery of our club network.

Glenn Schwarzel (Triathlon NSW President) thanked the board for their ongoing commitment and effort. Specific thanks went to John Stroud (Independent Director) for his work as Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee. A note of thanks was also extended to Tommy Morwood (Hills Triathlon Club) for his time on the Triathlon NSW board and his considered and strong contribution to the board.

Lastly but certainly not least, a special mention of thanks went to outgoing board member Lucy Burgmann (Balance and UTS). Her unique skill set and deep knowledge and understanding of governance principles assisted Triathlon NSW guide through one of its most difficult periods of time, due to COVID. Her contribution to the board will be missed by all who were lucky enough to work with her.

Thanks is also extended to Michelle Cooper (Triathlon Australia Chair) for taking time from her busy schedule to provide an update from the national perspective. It is great to have her presence and input and hear about the massive projects on the horizon for the sport of triathlon, our clubs and members.

Prior to the meeting, two (2) changes to the constitution were recommended. All constitutional changes were unanimously endorsed, and an updated constitution will be added to the Triathlon NSW website in the near future.

We are also excited to announce the addition of a 9th Life Member of the Triathlon NSW Association – John Holt (Cronulla Triathlon Club). John Holt has played a distinguished and prestigious role in the introduction and development of triathlon in NSW and Australia.

In 1991 he established Endurance Sports Promotions and made a significant contribution to the sport by being the founder and Race Director of the Kurnell Triathlon Series, conducting and managing over 60 Triathlon events. This event has inspired and engaged thousands of new athletes and it’s legacy continues today.

John was the Secretary of Triathlon NSW from 1987- 1991 where he helped grow and develop the brand-new sport of triathlon - developing safety procedures and standards for the safe conduct of triathlons, negotiating Public Liability Insurance for Race Directors and athletes and many other significant contributions.

We extend a warm welcome back to re-elected Triathlon NSW Board member Glenn Schwarzel (Macarthur Triathlon Club) and welcome Dean Morison (Tomaree Triathlon Club) and Mick Maroney (Cronulla Triathlon Club) after being successfully elected by the voting delegates.

Last but not least, thank you to those clubs who registered and dialled into the AGM and to all of our members for your ongoing efforts, passion and professionalism in supporting and growing our great sport in New South Wales.

The future looks strong for the sport of Triathlon in NSW!
