We sat down with Robyn, upon her commencement with Triathlon NSW, to find out a little bit more about her and what makes her tick!
Tell us more about your main goals in the role?
The first priority at this point is to assist Triathlon Australia with the Sanitarium Weetbix relationships through the NSW State. This includes activating local schools around these events and setting up engaging and enjoyable 'activations' at the three Weetbix events being held in this great state of ours.
Secondly, I am here and a resource for our Affiliated Clubs to utilise if they are looking to grow the quantity of juniors in their club, or even start something up for juniors to participate for the first time.
You bring so much experience with you, how did you get in the sport of triathlon?
I was out with friends in Wollongong one weekend a very long time ago and the St George Triathlon series happened to be on while I was there. I watched the race and decided that was what I wanted to do. I entered my first race just after that. I have been in the sport now for 20 years, competing and coaching. I have competed in IRONMAN, enticer, cross triathlon and duathlon. I have competed at the World Championships a few times and also regularly compete at club level. I enjoy giving back to the sport, I like to help the juniors and volunteer at races when I can.
How excited are you to join the Triathlon NSW team?
I am really excited to be working with Triathlon NSW. I have worked with some of the team members at camps and clinics before and it has been a great experience. I have learnt a lot already and I am excited to work for such a great organisation and a great sport.
Most memorable moment at an event you’ve worked on?
I have worked at so many events that it is hard to pin point one memorable moment. I have worked with junior elites at Mixed Team Relays, that was a very memorable experience. I have also been a part of many juniors completing a triathlon for the very first time, also a very rewarding and memorable moment.
Words of wisdom, what’s a quote/motto you live by?
“Luck doesn’t enter it. You have either done the work or you haven’t."
I believe that if you put the hard work in, you generally reap the reward.
A motto that I use a lot is "it rains on race day!
