AYJU23TS heads west - Way Out West

The Australian Youth | Junior | U23 Triathlon Series heads West - Way out West - early March.

Miss the action from Adelaide?

For our Youth and Junior athletes, this is the final race of the series, and with double points up for the taking, no-one has yet secured the win.  The Under 23 series continues with one more race in Devonport, Tasmania before the title is decided.

For many of our Youth and Junior athletes, this race falls the weekend after the Queensland School Sport State Championships in Hervey Bay, and athletes will be negotiating and adapting to significant amounts of travel.

After Race 3 in Adelaide, the point score has Queenslanders in striking position to take out the Australian Series Title in the Youth A, B and Junior categories.

For the Youth B Category, Queenslanders Ellen Thomas and Tara Sosinksi currently sit in first and second place respectively, however, with 2 points between the top 4 in the age group, the final result is far from clear.

Eight of the top 10 Youth B Males hail from Queensland.  For our top three athletes, Col Curry sits 10 points ahead of his nearest rivals, Ryan Marsh and Mitchell Yarde (both on 22 points), however, results on the day mean the title could be anyone's.

Youth A, (15-16 year old athletes), is no more clear cut.  In the women's competition, Richelle Hill and Keely Whittaker sit in second and third places respectively on the series point score.  South Australian Charlotte Derbyshire, who has won the last 2 races of the series, is looking to retain the title from last year, and will be out for an outright win at Way out West.

Youth A Males sees Queensland's Lachlan Sosinski currently in the lead, but South Australian Sam Tierney sits just one point behind.  Queenslander James Thomas sits in fourth on the leaderboard, well within striking range for the title as well.

The Junior Women's race has Queenslander Joanne Miller up against hometown heros Jessica Claxton and Kira Hedgeland.  With just two points separating these three strong athletes, it will be an exciting race to watch.

The double points component of this race puts current equal third place holder Nicholas Free within range of a title, sitting just four point behind current leader Lorcan Redmond (NSW).

No Queensland athletes will be competing in the Under 23 competition - their series final race will be in Devonport later this year.
