2017 has been a cracker of a year in the triathlon world - 4 Queenslanders named in the Commonwealth Games team (so far), Sarah Crowley's spectacular season, and the Queensland School Sport Triathlon team taking out the national trophy for the 11th year in a row.

For us at Triathlon Queensland, sometimes it is the little moments in triathlon that keep us inspired and motivated.  Here is our collection of favourite memories from 2017

Romy Wolstencroft

Tim Harradine, Executive Director

Last season, I watched Romy Wolstencroft battle through the Super Sprint Race Weekend after coming off the bike.  She was covered in grazes and bruises, but never gave up.

Watching Romy this past weekend storm home to win the "A final" and finish on the leader board as the top Queenslander in her category was a testament to her grit and determination.

Emma McCarthy, Partnerships & Marketing

Emma recently moved from the Events & Programs space into Partnerships & Marketing to replace Ellen Kingston-Pizzey who moved to Netball NSW.

My favourite memory was watching Grand Avenue State School students compete at the All Schools Triathlon and Aquathlon.  This school had started their triathlon journey by participating in a TRYstars program with Cath Rogers from Vision Tri Club.  We can't wait to see them on the starting line again soon.

Nick Donnelly, Events & Programs

Nick recently joined us from Cycling Queensland - but those with a good memory may remember Nick from when he worked with us a couple of years ago as an Events Assistant.

My favourite memory of the year (well, I have only been employed again here for a couple of weeks), was the Super Sprint Race Weekend as a whole from a human resource perspective. It was an
amazing reminder about how everyone at TQ is part of the ‘family’ and show true teamwork and cohesiveness even in challenging and draining circumstances. Many others would fall apart, but TQ staff always seem to push through the tough stuff together.

 Youth B Boys

Cathy English, Development & Coaching

Dan Mangano recently took over the High Performance Operations Manager role at Triathlon Australia. Cathy joined us from Event Health Management (Operations Manager), and Player Development Manager for Netball WA.  Cathy has quickly become an integral part of the team.

One of my favourite memories this year was watching a Youth B SSRW athlete after finishing his Aquathlon race stand next to the finish line to cheer, congratulate and then shake the hand of every participant in his race as they came over the finish line. It was a fantastic example of sportsmanship from an athlete so young. Thanks for the memory #212

Nick McGowan-Christie, Membership, Admin & Finance

The smiling faces of athletes enjoying themselves is my favourite memory from this season.  In particular, being up in the stands, watching the athletes cheer on eachotherin the Mixed Team Relay was a highlight after such a long tiring weekend of racing.

 Jan Frodeno Kona 2018

Tracey Zammit, Technical & Sanctioning

My favourite memory was watching Jan Frodeno at Kona.  He was my favourite in the men's race and I was hoping that he would three peat the event.  Even though I was disappointed that he was out of the race early into the run, I loved that he finished what he started.

Sally Teiniker, Clubs & Communications

My favourite memory from this year was, and continues to be, getting to know the 78 clubs across Queensland this season - including heading out to the Julia Creek Dirt & Dust Festival to meet with some of our North & North-Western based clubs face to face.  Without passionate clubs & squads across the state, who each serve a niche in the triathlon world, we wouldn't have such an vibrant, cohesive, competitive community.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your triathlon year.  Have a safe & happy Christmas & we will see you after the holiday break.
