Happy new year and welcome to 2018!
It’s mid- season for us and so far it has been a great season with some excellent racing and some good race attendances. The rest of the season and indeed the year of 2018 will see some exciting event opportunities and new initiatives. We can’t detail everything we have planned here but we will provide ongoing updates throughout the rest of the season and year. Whilst continuing to support our fantastic existing events we have also been listening to our clubs and members and are looking at some new formats and locations to keep it fresh. Here’s a snapshot of some of the planned events/initiatives:
National and International ITU racing at Glenelg: Over the weekend of 3-4th February, Glenelg will host a number of National and International events. On Saturday we will have the youths and juniors race in round 2 of the national series. We will also see elites and U23 racing in the OTU Triathlon Oceania Cup. Sunday will see youths and juniors racing in the national mixed relay championships and Elites/U23 racing in the OTU Mixed Relay Oceania Championship. Come down and see some of the best in the nation and international athletes take on this technical course with super speed and super skills. Also support our substantial and talented team of SA athletes who have all been training hard and will be racing over the weekend including Charlotte Derbyshire (National Youth Champion last 2 years), Amber Pate (U23 national series medallist last year) and Sam Tierney (Medallist in National Youth Champs for last 3 years). South Australia has been the Australian Mixed Relay Champions in the youth division for the last two years, and this year those athletes have stepped up in to the junior age group. Let’s all cheer them on as they battle for three in a row.
Our 2017/18 Club championships is only 5 weeks away in the beautiful town of Kingston South East, which is quite fittingly celebrating the 30th edition of this race. If you can, load the family in the car and spend the weekend down in Kingston to see the sights and support this event. There are distances for the whole family too.
Duathlons will have a strong presence over winter, with a 4 race series to commence in July and finish with the SA Duathlon Championships around a Port Adelaide circuit on Monday the 1st of October proudly supported by the city of Port Adelaide Enfield. This event will feature an exciting street and dock racing circuit.
We are working on a 3 race Aquathon series for 2018/2019. Each race will have a different format and location.
TriSA have been working on a girls in sport initiative and we will have some exciting news to announce in the coming weeks.
We are currently working on an exciting larger participation/personal challenge event for the end of the season…watch this space!
Wishing all of our South Australian Triathlon Community a prosperous and exciting 2018!
