How many 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team (Townsville) National Selection Events will count to my overall accumulated selection points result?
The Triathlon Australia National Age Group Manager will make selections in priority order per the highest accumulated selection points based on the best 3 results in the 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team National Selection Events. Detailed information can be found in the 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Policy Clause G3(a).
Age group athletes can compete in as many individual 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team National Selection Events which they like. Triathlon Australia will only take the athletes best 3 race results from the athletes 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team National Selection Events. For example, an age group athlete can compete in 7 individual 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Sprint Distance Duathlon selection events, Triathlon Australia will select the athletes best 3 race results from the 7 Sprint Distance Duathlon selection events which they raced in.
How long does it take Triathlon Australia to publish selection points post each national selection event?
Triathlon Australia may take up to 2 to 3 weeks to publish the selection points post an individual national selection event. Triathlon Australia may take longer to publish national selection event points depending on how quickly each timing company sends these results to Triathlon Australia post the event and how long it takes for the timing company to rectify results concerns including appeals, disqualifications etc. If the selection points have not been published to this website page, the points have not been completed.
I came first in my age group category on race day but on the 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Points Table (Townsville) I have only received the selection points for 3rd place in my age group category?
World Triathlon age group eligibility criteria for racing at the 2024 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon and Multisport World Championships is determined based on an athlete’s age on 31st December 2024. Results from each national selection event will be converted to age as of 31st of December 2024 and selection points allocated in priority order per the official race finishing time.
Please remember that athletes in Australia racing at national selection events will be racing under the Australian Race Competition Rules. The age group category rule under the Australian Race Competition Rules is different to the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules which you will race under at the 2024 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport World Championships.
Example in the change of age group category:
Sam Smith would like to seek selection to the 2024 Australian Age Group Aquathlon Team - Townsville.
Sam races at the 2024 Australian Age Group National Aquathlon Selection Events under the Australian Competition Rules. Under the Australian Competition Rules Sam races in the aquathlon events as his age on the 31st of December 2023. On the 31st of December 2023 Sam is 44 years old. Sam races his aquathlon selection events in the 40 to 44 year age group category.
If Sam is selected for the 2024 Australian Age Group Aquathlon Team, Sam will be competing under the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules. At the 2024 World Triathlon Age Group Aquathlon Championships in Townsville, Australia Sam will race as his age on the 31st of December 2024. Sam will be 45 years old on the 31st of December 2024. Sam races at the 2024 World Triathlon Age Group Aquathlon World Championships in the 45 to 49 age group category.
So what does this all mean?
Due to the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules at the 2024 World Triathlon Age Group Aquathlon World Championships, Sam needs to be selected for this event as his age as of the 31st of December 2024 - 45 to 49 age group category not the age group category he may race in on race day in Australia.
To ensure athletes are placed in the correct World Triathlon Race Competition Rules Age Group Category, the National Age Group Manager takes Sam's overall finish time from his national aquathlon selection event where he raced under the Australian Race Competition Rules in the 40 to 44 age group category and places Sam's overall finish time into the 45 to 49 age group category. Sam is awarded selection points in the 45 to 49 age group category.
Triathlon Australia will complete all the administration behind the scenes to ensure that the selection points are noted as age group athletes age as of the 31st of December 2024. # When you review your selection points post the relevant selection races, please make sure you look at the age group category which will be your age group as of the 31st of December 2024. This age group may be different from the age group category which you raced on race day at the relevant selection race.
2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team National Selection Points Table - Townsville
Please remember when you view the 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team National Selection Points Table:
1. All eligible Triathlon Australia Members receive selection points, regardless if they would like to seek selection to the 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team (Townsville).
2. Age group athletes may not receive the number of selection points which corresponds with your place in your age group category on race day. Please see above for an example (Sam Smith). Age group athletes will be placed in the selection points table as your age on the 31st of December 2024. This age group category may be different than the category you raced in on race day. When looking for your selection points post your relevant selection race, please look at the age group category as your age which will be the 31st of December 2024.
3. If you are a Triathlon Australia member and you enter the selection event with a nick name and or incorrect personal details e.g. date of birth and or incorrect TA membership number e.g. TA1234 you will not receive retrospective selection points. Due to the number of age group athletes seeking selection in 2024 selection points will not be awarded retrospectively.
4. If you are not noted in the selection points, please check the official race day results. If you have not been noted on the official race day results you must contact the race organiser and or timing company to have this rectified.
5. If you do not race in your age group category on race day, hold a professional license and or race on a one-day license at the selection race you will not receive selection points.
6. If you are not a Relevant Triathlon Australia Member at midnight on the Thursday preceding the selection event you will not receive selection points.

Will Triathlon Australia Publish 2024 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team (Malaga, Spain) National Selection Points?
Due to the predicted lower number of athletes seeking selection to the 2024 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team (a large number of athletes will be seeking selection to the 2024 Australian Age Group Multisport Team - Townsville), Triathlon Australia will not be publishing selection points for each 2024 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team individual selection event. We have found publishing selection points in the past may not show the true selection picture for eligible athletes throughout the season for a particular campaign. An athlete may be sitting on the overall selection points table at 40th position however this athlete is really sitting in 15th as 25 athletes in front of this athlete may not want to be selected for the Australian Age Group Triathlon Team.
Triathlon Australia will monitor 2024 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Applications and will publish any age group category which shows to have more than 20 applicants in any individual event throughout the triathlon selection period.
