Kiama Triathlon Club acknowledged in the Kiama Independent for Club Champs success
April 4, 2018
* As written in the Kiama Independent by Hayley Warden Kiama Triathlon Club have come away winners from the NSW Club Championships in Orange. The annual event attracted more than 1000 participants from more than 50 clubs across the state on March 24. “Triathlon is a very individual sport, but once a year we get the opportunity to compete together as a club, this year we took a team of 20 to this year’s championship run,” Kiama triathlete Geoff Besnard said. Kiama won the NSW Division 3 Championship for teams with 80 or less members. Athletes competed over the club distance of 1km swim, 30km bike and 8km run. The higher each competitor finishes in their age group, the more points they earn for their club. The club with the highest points total, wins the division. “There were 14 other clubs in our division. We also finished third outright in the country division, beating several Division 1 and Division 2 teams,” Besnard said. “It is the first time a team from the South Coast has won a state championship.” Kiama Triathlon Club supports and encourages multi-sport athletes, to offer them a safe supportive environment for training and to reach out to the community to encourage active lifestyles. They have about 45 active members who regularly train with members of the other local clubs, including Illawarra and Shellharbour. “We hold a timed training triathlon on the first Sunday of each month from 7.30am at the Minnamurra Bridge on Riverside Drive,” Besnard said. “We welcome everyone and encourage anyone who would like to know more about it, to come along and dip their toe in the water.” The club’s focus now shifts to Port Macquarie, where seven members will race over the Iron Man Distance in May. The World Triathlon Championships will be held on the Gold Coast in September, Kiama has seven club members likely to be named in the Australian team, with places to be confirmed in mid-April. Selection is based on a series of qualifying races which have been held across various states over the last four months. If you wish to join Kiama Triathlon Club, sign up for a membership now at http://www.triathlon.org.au/Membership/Annual_Membership.htm Triathlon Australia currently has a 15 month membership promotion for all new members. Hills Triathlon Club Race Series upgrades for the New Season
October 10, 2017
✔ ️ New Naming Rights Sponsor ✔ ️ FREE Race Photos ✔ ️ Comprehensive Juniors Racing and Aquabike and Aquarun options ✔ ️ 'Double Prize Chance' for all Race Volunteers The Hills Triathlon Club (HTC) is pleased to announce several exciting upgrades to their 2017 racing season. Firstly, they welcome a new major naming rights sponsor, Garmin Australia. Garmin are a World Leader in personal GPS equipment and sponsor some massive names in sport such as the Cannondale-Garmin Cycle team in TDF and Middlesbrough Football Club in the English Premier League. Now for the first time, they are getting involved in the grass roots level of a sport and have chosen HTC as their partner. As naming rights sponsor, the series is now branded the GARMIN TRI SERIES. As part of their sponsorship package, athletes and volunteers can expect to see some pretty cool Garmin multisport watches added to our lucky prize draw this season. In other exciting news, HTC have enlisted local sports photography talent whom will be snapping hundreds of pics at each of the Garmin Tri Series Races. These images will be shared with all racing competitors, even non HTC members can access their pics. President Tommy Morwood says: “The Garmin Tri Series is especially welcoming for beginners thanks to the closed course, and straight line swim, although we still get lots of faster athletes as well for those who are keen for some friendly rivalry and want to push harder!” At the Garmin Tri Series there are no medals for being first to finish, events are all about PB's and racing your friends. At the end of each race HTC give away prizes worth thousands thanks to their amazing race sponsors; Running Science, Gamin Australia, #granola bags, Active Body Physio Massage Vouchers, Nutrition Strategy Consultations with Bites Health Clinic, and Trek Bike gear like helmets, bike shoes. All race entrants have equal chance to pick up these prizes, and all volunteers get DOUBLE the chance for the same gear as well! As well offering sprint and enticer distance, Hills tri club is excited with the addition of two new events; “Based on member feedback, we are now offering, first time ever, Aquabike and Aquarun to our series. As always, races we put on are open to everyone, not just HTC members and the Garmin Tri Series is no different,” says Tommy. “We usually see a 50/50 mix of people from other clubs, and people new to the sport altogether. We offer a really supportive environment for newbies which brings people back each event.” Juniors contribute to be the backbone of growth in triathlon, and previously they have accounted for almost a quarter of all entrants. Once again there will be three different junior distances on offer, and thank to some very generous sponsorship from Eden Brae Homes we are able to keep junior entries to just 20 each. The Garmin Tri Series kicks off with three events this year, and three more to come in 2018, including the annual Club Distance West Metro race day, and "Enduro" race day. Race 1 – Sunday 15 October – 4pm (entries close Wednesday 11th October) Race 2 - Saturday 18 November – 4pm Race 3 – Sunday 17 December – 4pm Race 4 - TBC 2018 Race 5 - TBC 2018 Race 6 - TBC 2018 CLICK HERE to register!

Precision Athletica Advice: Why you should take the VO2 Max Test
January 18, 2017
* Precision Athletica is Sydney's first top level institute of sport accessible to the public, based at Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Precision Athletica offers a new generation of physio for sports performance, giving clients access to the same level of practitioners and high performance training equipment that an elite athlete would have in preparing for their sport. As a supporter of Triathlon NSW, members receive a 25% discount on Precision Athletica's services. Elite athletes know that VO2 max testing is the gold standard way of measuring cardio fitness. It is an extremely challenging test both physically and mentally. The great thing about the test is that it is able to accurately determine components of cardio fitness such as: Peak oxygen consumption Calories burned at different heart rates Anaerobic and anaerobic thresholds Max heart rate tolerance Target heart rate intensity zones From the results, specific heart rate training zones can be determined for the assessed. This will assist in enhancing training programs and improving performance quickly. Many people would recognise the VO2 max test as an exclusive test for elite endurance athletes. However, the test is of great benefit to all levels of athletes and has clear value to triathletes. Whether your goal is to enhance your fitness, lose weight, burn fat, or strategically plan out the various stages of your next triathlon, the VO2 max test will help you achieve your goals! The VO 2 max is the ultimate indicator of cardiovascular fitness, and Triathlon NSW's partner Precision Athletica now brings you CardioCoach technology to ensure you’re training at your full potential to achieve your goals. Precision Athletica are offering all Triathlon NSW members a 50% discount when booking their next VO2 Max Test - for bookings or to find out more, simply call them on (02) 9764 5787. CLICK HERE for more information on the services offered by Precision Athletica.
