Club Champs re-loaded for Forster in May 2023

We are excited to confirm that the much loved and hotly anticipated Triathlon NSW Club Championships, will return to Forster again in 2023.

The venue is locked, loaded and ready to go for Saturday 27th May 2023.

Up to 1,000 athletes will once again converge on Forster Main Beach to Swim, Bike and Run together in a celebration of everything that’s special and unique about our clubs and the wonderful individuals who are our members.

The Triathlon NSW Club Champs will remain the single ‘Member Only’ event held in Australia each year - the only race where you MUST hold a Triathlon NSW Standard (or Premium) membership to secure your place on the start line!

Importantly, and based on the clear feedback we’ve received at last year’s post-race survey, the 2023 event will see a new cycle course that has been approved by both council and police. It will feature a flatter and more friendly course for all athletes, including the removal of Cliff Drive and those hills that were so polarising!

The 2023 edition will feature everything you have loved in the past, but with some notable changes including;

  • The return of the much loved and much sought-after Club Champs Hoodie.
  •  Presentation & after party at Club Forster.
  • New cycle course
  • Updated run course (but keeping the iconic run over the bridge).

Unlike the last four years, the event will be delivered by Hunter based and well trusted local race organiser H Events.

For those unfamiliar with H Events and their CEO Paul Humphreys, he has over 28 years’ experience running high quality events for Triathlon NSW members including The Sparke Helmore Triathlon and the Maitland Triathlon.

Additionally, he is a keen triathlete and founding member of the Maitland Triathlon Club where he formally held the role of Club President. Paul has a deep and intimate understanding of the importance of the Triathlon NSW Club Champs and is excited for the team at H Events to produce next year's event.

"The H Events Team is excited to be producing the Triathlon NSW Club Championships for 2023, at beautiful Forster. As former presidents and long-term members of both Maitland and Newcastle Triathlon Clubs, my wife Hanne Humphreys and I, with Race Director Ja Davis, have a sound understanding of how much the 'end of season trip' to Club Champs means to Clubs," says Paul.

"It's that one opportunity where you get to race 'with' your mates, as opposed to 'against' them, to do your best for your Club, be it big or small. Our goal is to produce a professional and fun event for both members and spectators, and make sure everyone is keen to keep returning each year for the special 'Club Champs' racing and social experience".

The 2022 Club Championships event once again showcased how integral clubs are to the sustainable growth of our sport. The support networks and encouragement they provide are first class and continue to improve year-on-year.

We are currently working through final details and look forward to sharing further information regarding rules & regulations, divisions, volunteers, and the registration portal in the near future - with the goal of being 'on sale' with Early Bird pricing by the end of October.

Whist we are excited about working closely with H Events, we extend our deepest and sincere thanks to Mark ‘Emo’ Emerton and his superb crew at Elite Energy for their wonderful custodianship of the event over the last four years.

They’ve overseen the event during the most tumultuous times and held their nerve to deliver the November 2020 event just as COVID -19 restrictions were easing and did it in superb style. Elite Energy, led by their enigmatic leader Emo remain a crucial and critical partner of Triathlon NSW delivering some of the largest and most iconic races held in this great state. Elite Energy will continue to host Interclub League rounds and plenty of NSW Individual State Championship events each season! As always, we thank them for all they do for the sport of Triathlon.
