In March 2019, it was announced that the 2020 Triathlon NSW Club Championships, delivered by Race Director Partner, Elite Energy, will be held in Forster, NSW.
Recap on the full announcement, click here.
Following this exciting announcement, two dates were slated as possible options for the event date - late March 2020 or late May 2020. All clubs were given the opportunity to provide input, with a view on maximising participation from our most important stake holders, the clubs and their members. Triathlon NSW prides itself on its consultative approach to decision making and will continue to ensure that our clubs influence all that we do.
We acknowledge that there is no perfect date for all, however our aim is to confirm a date that works for the majority, noting other events being held around the state and what might assist each club to drive participation and be involved. Twenty three clubs provided feedback, with the majority identifying late May as a suitable weekend.
As such, we are happy to announce and confirm that the 2020 Triathlon NSW Club Championships will be hosted on Saturday, 23rd May!
Forster Keys will be the event stage and location for the next three years and we are thrilled to work closely with Mid Coast Council. Triathlon NSW would like to thank them in advance, for their ongoing support of this prestigious event for our triathlon community.
Speaking of the event being held in Forster for the next three years, Mid Coast Council’s Mayor, Cr David West stated:
"This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our beautiful backyard to visitors from across the State. There is no better place for a triathlon. We have a strong history of supporting these types of events and I am very proud our region will be hosting the Triathlon NSW’s Club Championships. Securing this event is a great way of sharing all that we have in the Mid Coast with others.”
The day will feature a Junior Club Championships Event, Half club Distance and Full Club distance. Plans are in motion for another exciting addition so stay tuned and we hope to make some further announcements in due course.
Although the new location comes with some challenges and preliminary conversations with council and the police, who have full control of the roads, have indicated that the adult event will need to commence early on Saturday. Local residents and the desire to minimise impacts for this vital stakeholder, combined with athlete safety are paramount to gaining police to approve changed traffic conditions. As a result, we will look to commence the adult race on Saturday morning, with the juniors to follow. We appreciate this a schedule change from what has occurred historically, but we are confident the event will be a huge success.
The 2020 Triathlon NSW Club Championships will remain the premier standalone event in NSW and an opportunity for clubs to compete against similarly sized clubs from around the state through three divisions (large, medium and small). It will also be a crucial final round for NSW Interclub competitions, featuring the opportunity for athletes to earn ‘Double Points’ in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and their clubs. This race will feature across the South Coast, North Coast, New England and Sydney Triathlon Leagues.
The official post event celebrations, after party and presentations will be hosted at Club Forster on Saturday 23rd May and registrations will open in due course.
See you in Forster!
