Triathlon NSW is excited to be working on a new initiative for the 2018/2019 season – a series of Regional Interclub competitions utilising pre-existing events and races already delivered around the state.
The concept was born from a very simple realisation in the Triathlon NSW office that our members are seeking more local opportunities to pull on their club kit and race, earn points for their clubs and travel with friends to events. Triathlon NSW affiliated clubs remains the centre of our sport, the heartbeat of our connectedness and integral to our long-term success.
Some further investigation behind retention and recruitment of membership quickly showed the increasing strength of the Hunter and Central West regions was in part attributable to the success of the locally organised and successfully delivered Interclub competition and the subsequent friendly rivalry and collaboration that developed in-between the clubs.
Chris Cunningham, Triathlon NSW Operations and Compliance Manager, stated: “It’s been genuinely exciting to work on a new project, which started with a blank piece of paper and developed off the back of written and verbal feedback from key stakeholders, namely, the Triathlon NSW Board and our club committee network.
“The survey that circulated through club committees in February of this year gained an unprecedented return rate and over 70% of clubs took the time to discuss this internally and provide their feedback.”
Whilst we understand that not all clubs and members will be involved in Year 1, Triathlon NSW is committed to seeing what works and what does not work, and reviewing this initiative after the first season. In time, it is hoped that these Regional Interclub Series will grow in prestige and stature.
However, without doubt, the Triathlon NSW Club Championships will remain the pinnacle event for all Triathlon NSW members to represent against similarly sized clubs from around NSW and the ACT.
Triathlon NSW hopes to tie up some lose ends and be able to provide a final copy of the rules, calendar and a newly launched website to support the Regional Interclub Series in time for the April Members Newsletter.
