It is with great excitement that we announce the recipients of our Women’s Triathlon Event Grants for 2020, in partnership with the NSW Office of Sport program “Her Sport Her Way” (HSHW).
With eleven fantastic applications presented from a diverse range of clubs across NSW, the Triathlon NSW board unanimously voted to support all the clubs who applied, rather than select a top eight. This exciting decision will allow for thirteen women’s-only events to go ahead this year with an estimated 500 women total attending all the events.
Triathlon NSW CEO Adam Wicks was impressed by the level of consideration and effort that each club put into its application: “I’m simply thrilled and excited to have received such a high quantity and quality of applications from our clubs. Events of this nature have a proven track record of engaging new females to try their first triathlon and become part of our community, and no doubt this program will achieve similar results.
Everything about this program is great. It allows local clubs to engage with their local community and offer a cheap first-touch opportunity in a sport with a long and successful history of being mixed gender.”
With the theme of ‘Finish lines, not finish times’, the events are designed to attract first-timers to the sport through non-competitive formats and a friendly, supportive atmosphere. A number of clubs have also organised inclusive training programs, seminars or social occasions around the delivery of their events.
The HSHW grant program is designed to assist NSW sporting organisations to grow their sport for women and girls, lower barriers to participation, and promote inclusive sport experiences. As a part of this program, Triathlon NSW is hoping to reduce some of the barriers experienced by women in pursuing multisport and offer a fun, low cost ‘first touch’ experience of the sport through our network of affiliated clubs.
TNSW Member Engagement & Communications Officer, Alana Leabeater, will be supporting the clubs in the delivery of the women’s only events, and is looking forward to welcoming newcomers: “Triathlon is such an awesome community to be a part of, and I’m sure our clubs will deliver some special events for first-timers across the state that encourages them to get involved with this community. I can’t wait to see these fantastic events take place over the next few months and bring some much needed community spirit back to triathlon.”
We thank all clubs for their time in applying, and look forward to the delivery of these events from October onwards.
Individual event registrations will be managed by the clubs hosting the events. We will share details of event registrations as they become available.
