State Championship Series Rules
Eligibility
- Current Premium or Standard members of AusTriathlon and the State of competition will be eligible for State Champion titles and series points in the designated events. For example a Victorian Championship requires a current AusTriathlon – VIC membership.
- Age groups are calculated based on the age as of 31 December at the beginning of the season – i.e. 31 December 2024 for the 2024/25 season.
- A state champion is the first member who crosses the line in their age category that meets the criteria of eligibility. i.e. if a non-member comes first and an eligible member places second, that member is crowned the state champion.
- State Championship medals are presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
- Unless specified otherwise in state-specific rules, Open or Elite waves are not eligible for State Championships.
- Members must enter the relevant championship event and declare their membership status to be eligible.
- Members must compete in a minimum of two events to be eligible for championship series awards.

Club Titles
Championship Series Club Champion– The Championship Series Club Champion title is awarded to club/squad based on results from the Championship Series events across the season. Organisations must be recognised as an affiliated club/squad (referred to as clubs) to be eligible for the Championship Series Shield and will be classified according to their size/type (classification confirmed using membership taken on 31 March 2024) –
- Small Club – less than 100 members
- Large Club – 100 or more members
All participants receive 1 point towards their club minimum, with the Top 10 receiving additional points. Points are also received by Technical Officials who are aligned with a club, 2 points per race they officiate.
Championship Series Performance Champion– This title is awarded to the club who accrues the highest points based on each Age Group Category Top 3 finishes. All participants who finish in the Top 3 in their age group receive points towards their club.
* 15 year olds will have the option to compete for points in either shorter distances (ie Enticer) in a 14-15 years category, or the sprint/standard distance events in 15-19 years category.
Frequently Asked Questions
How will AusTriathlon know which races I am competing in?
AusTriathlon works with the host event organiser to confirm eligible members and assign series points.
Do I need to register for the series?
No, to enter the series you just need to register through the event’s website and be an eligible AusTriathlon member. Make sure you register in the correct race category so you can earn points.
How do I register for an event?
Championships events are hosted by private event organisers, who have their own registration systems. You need to register via the event’s website. Links can be found on our website. Any queries regarding event registration should be directed to the host event organiser.
How do I know which race category to compete in?
Refer to the Series rules and eligibility information for your state (found above under the State you are competing in).
Who do I contact about an issue with my result or points?
For timing issues, contact the event organiser immediately after the event, within 30 minutes of the final race. Once the race results have been received by AusTriathlon, the places will stand. If you find an error in the Series leaderboard, please contact AusTriathlon.
If I do not race the required distance, can I still earn points?
No, the distances are set for the max distances for each age group. You need to compete at this distance to earn points.
What happens if an event is cancelled?
If an event is cancelled and not able to be rescheduled, no points will be awarded to any athlete for the race.
