AusTriathlon welcomes Maggie Roberts as Appointed Director

27 Jun 2025

AusTriathlon is pleased to announce the appointment of Maggie Roberts to the AusTriathlon Board as an Appointed Director, following a rigorous and transparent selection process led by the organisation’s Nominations Committee.

An Appointed Director is placed on the Board through direct appointment by the AusTriathlon Board, rather than being elected by members at the Annual General Meeting. This appointment pathway ensures the Board maintains a well-rounded mix of capabilities and experience by targeting specific skill sets that support the organisation’s long-term strategic priorities.

The appointment process was led by a dedicated Nominations Committee including Marlene Elliott (Independent Chair), Paul Stevens (President and Chair, AusTriathlon Board), and Cara Turnley (President, AusTriathlon Queensland).

The call for nominations opened on 16 May 2025 and closed 1 June 2025, promoted via national channels including AICD, Women on Boards, ASC Clearinghouse for Sport, LinkedIn, Sportspeople and AusTriathlon digital platforms.

All applications were assessed independently. Shortlisted candidates progressed through formal interviews and an evidence-based assessment process that considered both skill alignment and cultural fit. Gender balance and diversity were also central to the Committee’s considerations.

Following this process, the Committee submitted a final recommendation to the Board, and Maggie Roberts was formally endorsed as the new Appointed Director.

Roberts brings a wealth of cross-sector expertise in commercial partnerships, digital strategy, governance, and high performance sport.

She currently serves on the Board of Table Tennis Australia, supporting commercial and strategic initiatives, and previously held a Board position with Diving Australia, where she contributed to high-performance planning, national representation, and governance advancement.

Professionally, Roberts leads Creative Factory, a strategic digital agency delivering complex, commercially driven technology solutions for leading Australian brands. Across her executive and board roles, she has developed deep capability in financial oversight, risk management, legal compliance, and digital innovation.

Beyond her professional achievements, Roberts has a strong personal connection to triathlon. She will line-up at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Marbella, Spain later this year and sees the sport as a vehicle for personal growth, community engagement and purpose. Her passion for the sport and its impact on Australians is matched by her commitment to helping AusTriathlon realise its ambition of seeing 200,000+ Australians on start lines annually by 2032

AusTriathlon is delighted to welcome Robters to the Board and looks forward to the insights, energy and expertise she will bring as we continue to grow and strengthen triathlon across the country.
