AusTriathlon held its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, 28 November where two directors were elected to the Board to replace long-serving elected directors Stuart Corbishley and Alex Gosman.
A significant moment of the 2025 AGM was the endorsement of Life Membership for the late Col Stewart, whose contribution to Australian triathlon spanned decades and shaped the sport nationally. President Paul Stevens acknowledged Col’s lasting impact, describing him as a leader whose influence extended across coaching, high performance development, pathways, and integrity across the sport.

Two long-serving Directors concluded their tenure at this year’s AGM, Stuart Corbishley finishes his tenure after 9 years on the board, appointed in 2016. Recognised for his calm, incisive legal mind and strong governance leadership, Stuart played an instrumental role in strengthening the organisation’s governance framework, risk discipline and strategic decision-making.
Alex Gosman steps down after 7 years on the board and was recognised for his passion for grassroots sport and participation was described as “compelling and contagious.” Throughout his service, he consistently championed the athlete experience and the importance of community at the heart of triathlon.
President Paul Stevens extended sincere thanks to both departing Directors, acknowledging the significant time, expertise and commitment they contributed to AusTriathlon.
Following a thorough nomination process two new Directors were elected to the board, each bringing deep governance experience and strong connection to sport, particularly triathlon.
Melissa Ashton-Garard joins the AusTriathlon Board with extensive senior leadership and governance experience across the sports and not-for-profit sectors. Currently CEO of Rowing NSW, Melissa has led major organisational reforms. A highly ethical and strategic governance professional, Melissa brings deep expertise in risk management, stakeholder engagement, organisational transformation and policy development.
Her background in triathlon spans across athlete pathways, administration, and high-performance oversight. As a former high-performance athlete, coach, and Chair of national selection panels, Melissa brings a rare integration of governance skill and on-the-ground sport experience.
With more than 35 years of global leadership and governance experience, Greg Stanmore brings a powerful combination of corporate, advisory, and sport-specific expertise to the Board.
Greg spent two decades as a Partner and Senior Advisor at Spencer Stuart, completing over 500 executive and board-level assignments across the world. Prior to this, Greg served as General Manager of James Hardie’s A/NZ operations, leading a $300 million business through significant restructuring and sustainable growth.
A former elite triathlete who represented Australia at the World Triathlon Championships, Greg brings not just governance expertise but lived experience as an athlete in the sport.
The 2025 AGM reaffirmed AusTriathlon’s commitment to strengthening governance, expanding community participation, and supporting high-performance excellence as the sport continues to grow across Australia.
