Introducing Lauren Myers – An Unforgettable Home Gold

3 Dec 2025

Going for Gold in her own backyard was summed up in these three words: Incredible. Rewarding. Unforgettable.

Representing the Illawarra Triathlon Club on home soil, Lauren Myers delivered a golden performance at the 2025 Age Group World Championships in Wollongong. Racing in front of family, friends, and her local community, Lauren’s victory was not only a personal triumph but also a celebration of consistency, resilience, and the power of support.

The Key to Success

For Lauren, the secret wasn’t about pushing harder every day — it was about consistency and progressive overload.

“Training hard all the time isn’t sustainable, and burnout is something many athletes face. I love having a structured plan and sticking to it. It keeps me motivated and excited to tick off each week of training knowing it’s a part of the bigger picture.”

Her disciplined approach ensured she arrived at Wollongong in peak form, ready to race at her best and embrace the challenge.

Race Day Highlights

While the gold medal was the headline, Lauren shared that her proudest moments came from seeing the smiling faces of her family and friends lining the course. She shared that racing at home made the day unforgettable, and that the extra energy for her personal sideline support squad gave her an extra boost when it mattered most.

Rituals and Secrets

Every champion has their quirks, and Lauren’s is musical: she chooses a “race song” as her anthem in the lead‑up. It’s her soundtrack for tough training sessions and race day focus. Alongside this, she follows a strict fueling strategy in the 48 hours before competition — because, as she says, “You can do all the right training, but if you’re not fueling well, you can’t perform at your best.”

A Golden Moment for Illawarra

Whilst winning at home in Australia is one thing, winning in your local area is extra special – being surrounded by support on so many levels, we’re sure that Lauren’s victory was also an incredibly proud moment for her club and community.

💚💛
