Nestled in the heart of the Hunter, Maitland Triathlon Club (MTC) has built a reputation as one of NSW’s most welcoming and community‑driven triathlon clubs. Their motto – Fun. Family. Friendship. Fitness. – isn’t just a slogan; it’s the heartbeat of everything they do.
MTC races eight times a year at Maitland Park, usually on the third Sunday of each month from September to April, offering a full range of events for all ages and abilities – from the youngest learning the fun element of the sport in the Splash ’n’ Dash, through Juniors, and adult athletes of all abilities taking on varying multisport formats. It’s a club where you’ll find parents and kids racing on the same day, creating a genuine family atmosphere that keeps people coming back season after season.
The club is also a proud competitor in the NSW Interclub Championships, racing as the Maitland Magic, with a strong history in the Hunter Triathlon League and standout athletes regularly featuring in MVP rankings.
This year four incredible athletes from Maitland put their hand up to be NSW Triathlon Ambassadors – we’re pretty sure you’ll have seen or heard them at an event this season. If you haven’t yet…look out for the red and blue at Club Championships in February 2026! These athletes bring the energy. They also bring a great example of the club range from – from relatively new-to-tri, to competitive age-group, to those targeting lofty new goals in the sport. All made possible because of the club community support.
We spoke to Ambassador and proud Maitland member, Troy Ridgley, who shared that the fitness element is the result of the other three pillars the club drives – fun, family and friendship, because the atmosphere really is about building all of these for life.
Whether you’re chasing fitness, friendships, or finish lines, Maitland Triathlon Club offers a supportive environment where every athlete, from first‑timers to Kona qualifiers, is celebrated. Their community-first approach makes them a shining example of what grassroots triathlon is all about.
