It was a record-breaking weekend at Lake Kawana for the All Schools Triathlon and Aquathlon with more 1100 participants hitting the course over the two days.
With perfect weather for racing across Saturday and Sunday the athletes left nothing out on the course, attacking it with plenty of pace, determination and excitement. For many the weekend served as their first experience in multisport while others were returning with a sense of confidence and composure.
There were opportunities for kids starting from 8 years old all the way to senior students ensuring that no matter your age, journey or skillset everyone had a chance to get involved.
Genesis was once again the school to beat taking out the top gong in the Schools Aquathlon thanks to both some strong individual performances but also an overwhelmingly strong representation at the event. Wishart State School pulled in second place while Kelvin Grove State College claimed the third-place mantle.
In the triathlon it was Sunshine Coast Grammar who reigned supreme with Kelvin Grove State College hot on their heels in second and Genesis Christian College rounding out third place in the standings.
Not only playing host to the All Schools Triathlon and Aquathlon, it was also the QLD State Aquathlon Championships with plenty of new and familiar faces taking out the title in their respective age groups. Hayden Brown had a scintillating race clocking 10:46 on the swim and just over 16 minutes on the run crossing not only the finish line first but also taking home the title in his 25-29 age group. Lou Brillault got the job done in the 40-44 category with T-Rex’s Kane Finch hot on his heels in second.
Sunshine Coast Triathlon Academy’s very own Emma McInnes starred in the 20-24 category securing top spot while Michaela Cronan took out first place for the 30-34 age group.
A special shoutout to our major sponsor Caloundra RSL who partnered with the event, along with SeaLife Aquarium who provided some special giveaways to the top schools.
