Three-Time Champion Aaron Royle Inducted into Garmin Noosa Triathlon Walk of Fame

Three-time Garmin Noosa Triathlon champion Aaron Royle has been inducted into the Garmin Noosa Triathlon Walk of Fame, recognising an outstanding career and his special connection with one of Australia’s most iconic triathlons.

Royle joins the Walk of Fame following a career that included two Olympic Games appearances, a World Under 23 Championship title, international podium performances and more than 15 years representing Australia at the highest level of the sport.

The Novocastrian enjoyed a particularly successful relationship with Noosa, winning the event three times across a six-year period. He first claimed the title in 2013 before returning a year later to successfully defend his crown. Royle went on to complete his trio of victories in 2018.

His 2014 victory provided one of the memorable finishes of that era, with Royle outsprinting fellow Australian Commonwealth Games representatives Dan Wilson and Ryan Bailie, with just seven seconds separating the trio at the finish.

“I’m honestly quite blown away and truly honoured to be recognized and inducted into the Walk of Fame. The true legends of our sport have won this award, and I certainly don’t put myself in that realm. But to be somewhat recognized in that sort of stratosphere is truly humbling, and something that was really, really unexpected.

“Noosa played a big role in my career with the three wins and the couple of other podiums that I’ve had. I really didn’t win much in my career, so to come to Noosa and win such a big race, it at the time gave me the belief that I could compete on the world stage and it also came at periods in my career that had some down moments that revitalized and kick started things, especially the second and third win in my career,” said Royle

Away from Noosa, Royle built an impressive international résumé. He was crowned Under 23 World Champion in 2012 before going on to represent Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where he won bronze as part of the mixed relay team.

Royle made his Olympic debut at Rio 2016, finishing ninth, before returning to represent Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He was also part of Australia’s winning team at the 2018 World Triathlon Mixed Relay Series event in Edmonton.

In the latter stages of his career, Royle broadened his racing beyond traditional short-course triathlon into middle-distance racing, while also contributing to the sport as a guide for Australian Para triathlete Sam Harding.

Fittingly, the three-time champion chose Noosa as the setting for the final professional race of his career in 2025, finishing 10th. The occasion brought his career full circle, with the event having played an important role in his journey more than a decade earlier.

The induction into the Garmin Noosa Triathlon Walk of Fame recognises both Royle’s achievements on the Noosa course and a career that took him from Australian junior racing to World Championship success, Commonwealth Games and Olympic representation.
