AusTriathlon members can represent Australia as a member of the Age Group Team at the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships.

The Australian Age Group Team offers all eligible relevant AusTriathlon members a unique opportunity to compete at the World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon and Multisport World Championships.

Athletes can choose from a variety of distances to compete in at Triathlon and Multisport World Championships – including sprint distance triathlon, standard distance triathlon, mixed team relay, duathlon, aquathlon, cross triathlon and duathlon, aquabike standard and long distance and long-distance triathlon.

How can I be selected to the Australian Age Group Team?

Follow the steps below to be eligible for selection in an Australian Age Group Team. The process is designed to be straightforward, with AusTriathlon managing most of the selection administration for you.

1. Pick a Race Distance/ Race Destination

The World Triathlon Age Group World Championship events are held in different countries each calendar year. Please see below which race distances are held at each World Triathlon Age Group World Championships.

The triathlon world championships includes the following events:

  • Sprint Distance Triathlon (Draft Legal) – 750m Swim, 20km Cycle (Draft Legal), 5km Run
  • Mixed Team Relay (Draft Legal) – 300m Swim, 5km to 8km Cycle (Draft Legal), 1.5km to 2km Run. Each athlete will complete all 3 legs before handing over to the next team member
  • Standard Distance Triathlon (Non-Draft Legal) – 1.5km Swim, 40km Cycle (Non-Draft Legal), 10km Run
  • Standard Distance Aquabike (Non-Draft Legal) – 1.5km Swim, 40km Cycle (Non-Draft Legal)

The multisport world championships includes the following events:

  • Sprint Distance Duathlon (Draft Legal): 5km Run, 20km Cycle (Draft Legal), 2.5km Run
  • Standard Distance Duathlon: 10km Run, 40km Cycle, 5km Run
  • Cross Triathlon: 1km Swim, 20km to 30km Mountain Bike Ride, 6km Trail Run
  • Cross Duathlon: 6km Trail Run, 20km to 30km Mountain Bike Ride, 3.2km Trail Run
  • Aquathlon: 2.5km Run, 1km Swim, 2.5km Run
  • Aquabike: 3km Swim, 120km Cycle
  • Long Distance Triathlon: 3km Swim, 120 Cycle, 30km Run

The T100 triathlon world championships includes the following event:

2km Swim, 80km Cycle (Non-Draft Legal), 18km Run

2. Read the Australian Age Group Team Selection Policy

Before getting started, read the Australian Age Group Team Selection Policy  for the team you are seeking selection for. The selection policy will outline the process and criteria AusTriathlon will use to select each team. Each team and destination has its own policy, so make sure you review the correct one.

3. Ensure You Have the Correct AusTriathlon Membership

To earn selection points, you must hold a current Standard or Premium AusTriathlon membership. Your membership must be valid by midnight on the Thursday before the selection event you are competing in. Without the correct membership, selection points cannot be awarded. Athletes are unable to apply for the Australian Age Group Team without a current Standard and or Premium AusTriathlon membership.

4. Choose and Enter National Selection Events

AusTriathlon identifies specific national selection events for each Australian Age Group Team.

You should:

  • Choose which of the listed selection events you wish to compete in

  • Enter these events directly with the nominated race organiser

  • Include your AusTriathlon membership number in your race entry

5. Compete in Your Selected National Selection Events

Simply race in your chosen national selection events—there is no need to notify AusTriathlon which events you are racing in. The official race results will be sent to AusTriathlon directly from the race organiser. AusTriathlon will award national selection points to eligible athletes as outlined in the relevant Australian Age Group Team Selection Policy.

6. Submit an Expression of Interest Application

If you would like to be considered for selection in the Australian Age Group Team, you must submit an Expression of Interest Application online via the AusTriathlon website.

  • Each Australian Age Group Team has a different Expression of Interest Application closing date

  • Closing dates are listed in the relevant Selection Policy

  • You must hold a current Standard or Premium AusTriathlon membership to submit an Australian Age Group Team Expression of Interest Application.

7. Communication from AusTriathlon

Once Expressions of Interest Applications have closed, AusTriathlon will email all eligible athletes who have correctly submitted an Expression of Interest Application.

This email will include:

  • Confirmation of your application

  • An explanation of the selection process

  • Details of the next steps

How do I seek selection to the 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team (Pontevedra, Spain)?

Athletes seeking selection to the 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team must complete the following steps:

1. Read the Selection Policy – Review the 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Selection Policy, which outlines the selection process, eligibility requirements, and criteria used by AusTriathlon to select the team.

2. Understand Financial Obligations – Important information regarding financial commitments including application fees, event entry fees, uniform costs, and travel packages can be found here Travel Packages and Financial Obligations – Age Group – AusTriathlon

3. Hold a Current Relevant AusTriathlon Membership – Ensure you hold a current and relevant AusTriathlon membership. To be eligible for selection points, athletes must hold a current relevant membership by midnight on the Thursday prior to the relevant selection event. Relevant membership includes Standard and/or Premium annual memberships and excludes Social and/or Basic membership categories.

4. Review the National Selection Events Calendar – Check the 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team National Selection Events Calendar to identify eligible selection events.

5. Enter National Selection Events – Enter the relevant 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team National Selection Events directly through the event organisers. Event directors will update their event websites as details are confirmed. Athletes are encouraged to regularly check individual event websites for updated information, including confirmed dates, entry opening dates, and course details.

6. Unable to Attend a National Selection Event? If you are unable to compete in an identified National Selection Event, please refer to the 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Selection Policy Clause G4 – Australians Residing Overseas (Page 11), and/or Clause G5 – Discretionary Selection (Page 12)

7. Submit a 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Expression of Interest Application/s – Complete one or more individual 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Expression of Interest Application/s by 5:00pm AEST on Monday the 27th of April 2026.

8. AusTriathlon Communication – AusTriathlon will contact all applicants via email by 5:00pm AEST on Wednesday the 25th of March 2026.

9. Team Announced – The 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team will be announced by 5pm AEST on Monday the 25th of May 2026. Selected 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team members will be sent information on their selection to the team via email on Monday the 25th of May 2026. The 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team selection information will include the cost of the 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Athlete Services Contribution, how to order Australian Age Group Team uniform, athlete agreement, event details, accommodation packages etc.

World Triathlon Statement (7th March 2026) – World Triathlon is closely monitoring the current situation in the region and remains in regular contact with local organising partners and relevant authorities. At this time, preparations for the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships Abu Dhabi are continuing as planned. The safety and wellbeing of our local team, stakeholders, athletes and staff remains our highest priority. We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates to the community as necessary, particularly in advance of any key registration or refund deadlines.

2026 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Update (15th March 2026) – Currently, the Australian Government has issued a “Do Not Travel” advisory for the United Arab Emirates via the Smartraveller website for all Australian citizens. This advisory was raised on the 28th of February 2026 due to the volatile security situation in the Middle East region, including military strikes and retaliatory actions across the Middle East, which are causing movement restrictions and travel disruptions. Given this travel advisory, AusTriathlon will delay the preliminary team announcement until 5pm AEST on Wednesday the 1st of July 2026. Depending on the Australian Government’s travel advice as of this date, AusTriathlon may be unable to select a 2026 Australian Age Group Multisport Team. If this occurs, 2026 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Expression of Interest Application fees will be refunded, less the online processing fee. AusTriathlon will continue to work with World Triathlon regarding the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships and will provide updates to all 2026 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Expression of Interest Applicants as new information becomes available. 2026 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Expression of Interest Applications closed at 5pm AEDT on Monday the 23rd of March 2026 as noted in the 2026 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Policy.

AusTriathlon will continue to work with World Triathlon regarding the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group T100 Triathlon World Championships and will provide updates to all 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team Expression of Interest Applicants as new information becomes available. 

How do I seek selection to the 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team if I placed top 10 in my age group category at a 2026 T100 Age Group Race eg T100 Gold Coast, Singapore, London, Vancouver?

If you placed top 10 in your age group at the following 2026 T100 Triathlon World Tour Age Group Events – Gold Coast, Singapore, Spain, London and Vancouver, you may be invited by T100 to compete at the 2026 T100 Triathlon World Championships in Lusail, Qatar. To compete, AusTriathlon must approve your race entry, and you must race in an Australian Age Group Team approved uniform.

The 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team is fully self-funded and approximate costs of selection to the team including race entry, team fees, uniform costs etc can be located on the AusTriathlon website here Travel Packages and Financial Obligations – Age Group – AusTriathlon

What happens if AusTriathlon does not approve my T100 Qatar race entry: If AusTriathlon does not approve your individual race entry to the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group T100 Triathlon World Championships in Lusail, Qatar your individual race entry will be moved by T100 to the mass participation/ non World Championship event in Qatar in December.

Important Note Middle East Conflict – AusTriathlon at its discretion may not select a 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team to attend the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group T100 World Championships for reasons including but not limited to Australian Government international travel restrictions. AusTriathlon shall not be responsible or liable in any way to anyone for any consequence of a decision not to select a 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team.

To receive AusTriathlon approval, you must:

1. If you placed top 10 in your age group category at the following 2026 T100 Triathlon World Tour Age Group Events – Gold Coast, Singapore, Spain, London and Vancouver, you may be directly invited by T100 to compete at the 2026 T100 Triathlon World Championships in Lusail, Qatar. T100 will contact eligible athletes within 28 days of your individual 2026 T100 race result. Athletes who have received correspondence directly from T100 after competing in the 2026 T100 Triathlon Gold Coast, Singapore, Spain, London and Vancouver events must Accept (Pay your Race Entry to T100), Decline or Defer your World Championship place. T100 has noted age group athletes have until the 31st of October 2026 to accept, decline or defer 2026 T100 Triathlon World Championships race positions.

Athletes can defer your race entry from the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group T100 Triathlon World Championships to the 2027 World Triathlon Age Group T100 Triathlon World Championships (Lusail, Qatar December 2027). To request a deferral from 2026 to 2027 athletes must complete their full 2026 race entry directly with T100 and then contact qatar@t100triathlon.com confirming they have registered along with confirming their intent to defer to the 2027 event. Please note you must still complete a 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team Expression of Interest Application on the AusTriathlon website by 5pm AEST on Monday the 10th of August 2026 and then email alexandra.fehon@triathlon.org.au to note you have defered your race entry from 2026 to 2027.

2. Read the 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team Selection Policy

3. Hold a current Standard or Premium (The 2026/2027 AusTriathlon membership year will begin on the 1st of July 2026 and conclude on the 30th of June 2027). Athletes must be a current AusTriathlon Standard or Premium member when racing at the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group T100 Triathlon World Championships in Qatar. AusTriathlon membership

4. Submit a 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team Expression of Interest Application by 5:00pm AEST on Monday the 10th of August 2026. To submit an application you must be a Standard or Premium AusTriathlon member. The 2026/2027 AusTriathlon membership year will begin on the 1st of July 2026 and conclude on the 30th of June 2027.

5. Be selected to the 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team as outlined in the 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team Selection Policy

6. The 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team will be announced by 5pm AEST on Tuesday the 1st of September 2026. Selected 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team members will be sent information on their selection to the team via email on Tuesday the 1st of September 2026. The 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team selection information will include the cost of the 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team Athlete Services Contribution, how to order Australian Age Group Team uniform, athlete agreement, event details, accommodation packages etc.

6. Complete all required payments including the Athlete Services Contribution, Australian Age Group Team Uniform Order, World Triathlon Age Group Event Entry Fee etc by the nominated deadlines. Once these steps are completed, AusTriathlon will approve your race entry for the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group T100 Triathlon World Championships. AusTriathlon shall not be responsible or liable in any way to anyone for any consequence of a decision not to approve an individuals race entry for the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group T100 Triathlon World Championships in Lusail, Qatar.

Important Note – 2026 T100 Triathlon Dubai (November 2026) and 2026 T100 Triathlon Saudi Arabia (November 2026): Due to Australian Age Group Team uniform production timelines athletes who place in the top 10 in your age group at the 2026 T100 Triathlon World Tour Age Group Events – Dubai and Saudi Arabia will not be approved by AusTriathlon to compete at the 2026 T100 Triathlon World Championships in Lusail, Qatar. Athletes who place in the top 10 in your age group at the 2026 T100 Triathlon Dubai and/or the 2026 T100 Triathlon Saudi Arabia events will need to defer your invitation with T100 to the 2027 World Triathlon Age Group T100 Triathlon World Championships in Lusail, Qatar.

How do I seek selection to the 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team (Lusail, Qatar) if I have not placed top 10 at a 2026 T100 Race and I have not competed in a 2026 T100 Race?

Athletes seeking selection to the 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team must complete the following steps:

7. Submit a 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team Expression of Interest Application – Complete a 2026 Australian Age Group T100 Triathlon Team Expression of Interest Application by 5:00pm AEST on Monday the 10th of August 2026.
