Were you a relevant AusTriathlon member by midnight on Thursday preceding the selection event?  For selection points in an event to accumulate towards selection an athlete must hold a relevant AusTriathlon membership as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Event. # Relevant AusTriathlon Membership means a current annual AusTriathlon Membership in the full Standard and or Premium categories but excludes all Social and or Basic membership categories.

Did you enter your selection event with your correct information which matches your AusTriathlon relevant Membership? Selection points will not be awarded to relevant AusTriathlon members if the AusTriathlon member does not enter their relevant AusTriathlon membership number, correct date of birth and their full correctly spelled first and last names which match their Relevant AusTriathlon membership details at the time of entering each individual nominated selection event. AusTriathlon will not be correcting athlete’s selection points or awarding selection points post the selection event due to athlete’s incorrect race entry data.

4. I cannot find my name on the selection points list?

Are you listed on the official national selection event results from the timing company? AusTriathlon produces the selection points from the official race results received from each national selection event timing company. Are you looking at the correct age group category? World Triathlon age group eligibility criteria for racing at the World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon and Multisport World Championships is determined based on an athlete’s age on 31 December of the year of the relevant World Triathlon Age Group World Championships. Results from each national selection event will be converted to age as of 31 December of the year of the relevant World Triathlon Age Group World Championships and selection points allocated in priority order per the official race finishing time.

What is your age on the 31 December of the year of the relevant World Triathlon Age Group World Championships? To locate your selection points, you need to look in this age group category regardless of what age group category you raced in on race day at the national selection events. Please see below for an example of this change in age group category rules.

5. I came first in my age group category on race day but on the selection points table I have only received the selection points for third place in my age group category?

2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon (Wollongong) Team

World Triathlon age group eligibility criteria for racing at the World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon and Multisport World Championships is determined based on an athlete’s age on 31 December 2025. Results from each national selection event will be converted to age as of 31 December 2025 and selection points allocated in priority order per the official race finishing time.

Please remember that athletes in Australia racing at national selection events will be racing under the Australian Race Competition Rules. The age group category rule under the Australian Race Competition Rules is different to the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules which you will race under at the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon World Championships.

Example in the change of age group category:

Sam Smith would like to seek selection to the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Team (Draft Legal) – Wollongong, Australia.

Sam races at the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon National Selection Events under the Australian Competition Rules. Under the Australian Competition Rules Sam races in the Sprint Distance Triathlon events as his age on the 31 December 2024. On 31 December 2024 Sam is 44 years old. Sam races his Sprint Distance Triathlon selection events in the 40 to 44 year age group category.

If Sam is selected for the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Team, Sam will be competing under the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules. At the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships in Wollongong, Australia Sam will race as his age on the 31 December 2025. Sam will be 45 years old on the 31 December 2025. Sam races at the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships in the 45 to 49 age group category.

So what does this all mean?

Due to the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules at the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships, Sam needs to be selected for this event as his age as of the 31 December 2025 – 45 to 49 age group category not the age group category he may race in on race day in Australia.

To ensure athletes are placed in the correct World Triathlon Race Competition Rules Age Group Category, the National Age Group Manager takes Sam’s overall finish time from his national Sprint Distance Triathlon national selection event where he raced under the Australian Race Competition Rules in the 40 to 44 age group category and places Sam’s overall finish time into the 45 to 49 age group category. Sam is awarded selection points in the 45 to 49 age group category.

6. What happens if I finish in an identical time to another athlete in my age group category?

Athletes finishing in identical time will, for the purposes of the Australian Age Group Triathlon and Multisport Team Selection Policy, be regarded as finishing in a tie and will be awarded selection points as in the following example:

E.g., If two athletes finish in a tie (as defined) for fourth position in event four, they will be awarded 21.5 points each (22 + 21 = 43 divided by 2 = 21.5).

10. I signed up as a AusTriathlon member after I competed in the national selection event, can I now be allocated selection points?
