Australian Age Group Team Selection Polices
1. Do the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team Selection Policies change
YES - Please do not print the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team Selection Policies as these policies are subject to change throughout the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and Long Distance Duathlon Team selection period. Changes will be noted on the final page/ last page of the selection policies as amendments. It is the athlete’s individual responsibility to check the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team Selection Policies regularly to ensure they are aware of any changes and updates to the selection policy throughout the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team selection period.
2. Why should I read the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team Selection Policy?
The selection policies detail the process and criteria by which AusTriathlon will select the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and Long Distance Duathlon Teams. The selection policies outline how many athletes AusTriathlon may select, how many selection races athlete’s need to compete in, how the selection points system works, how to express interest for the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team etc.
3. Can I be selected to the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team as a permanent resident?
NO - Only Australian Citizens may seek selection for the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team. Australian Age Group Team selected athletes will need to provide AusTriathlon proof of Australian Citizenship at least 16 weeks prior to the start of the relevant World Triathlon Age Group World Championships.
4. Do I need to be a certain age to compete at the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships?
YES - age group categories vary depending on the individual event.
2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon (Wollongong), Multisport (Pontevedra) and Long Distance Duathlon (Zofingen) Team
Athletes must be 15 years old as of 31 December 2025 to compete in the following events:
2025 World Triathlon Age Group Mixed Team Relay (Draft Legal) World Championships – Wollongong, Australia.
Athletes must be 16 years old as of 31 December 2025 to compete in the following events:

Athletes must be 18 years old as of the 31 December 2025 to compete in the following events:

5. What happens if I cannot race at the Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events?
The Australian Age Group Triathlon and Multisport Team selection policies (Selection Policy Clause G.4 Australian’s Residing Overseas and G.5 Discretionary Selection) details how athletes who cannot race in a relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National selection event may apply for selection to the Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team. Please read the relevant Australian Age Group Team Selection Policies
6. How many age group athletes can AusTriathlon select to the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and Long Distance Duathlon Teams?
2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team (Wollongong, Australia):
World Triathlon Race Competition Rules stipulate that AusTriathlon may nominate a maximum of 25 males and 25 females in each age group category of the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon (Draft Legal) World Championships and the World Triathlon Age Group Standard Distance Triathlon and Standard Distance Aquabike World Championships.
Age group categories start at 16-19 (Sprint Distance Triathlon – Draft Legal) 18-19 (Standard Distance Triathlon – Non-Draft Legal and Standard Distance Aquabike – Non-Draft Legal) and then progress in five-year blocks e.g., 20 – 24; 25 – 29 (Sprint Distance Triathlon – Draft Legal, Standard Distance Triathlon – Non-Draft Legal and Standard Distance Aquabike – Non-Draft Legal); for both men and women.
World Triathlon Race Competition Rules stipulate that AusTriathlon may nominate a maximum of 10 teams each comprised of 2 males and 2 females in each category of the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Mixed Team Relay (Draft Legal) World Championships.
Age group categories are 15-19 years, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 years and above.
Under the terms of the Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Selection Policy, the AusTriathlon Age Group Committee is not required to select the maximum of 10 2025 Australian Age Group Mixed Team Relay Teams or 20 males and 20 females for all other events to the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team.
# As the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon World Championships will be held in Wollongong, Australia, under the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules – AusTriathlon may select an increased number of age group athletes than they are able to select when the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships is held outside Australia.
2025 Australian Age Group Long Distance Duathlon Team (Zofingen, Switzerland):
World Triathlon Race Competition Rules stipulate that AusTriathlon may nominate a maximum of 20 males and 20 females in each age group category of the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Long Distance Duathlon World Championships.
Age group categories start at 18-19 and then progress in five-year blocks e.g., 20 – 24; 25 – 29 for both men and women.
2025 Australian Age Group Multisport Team (Pontevedra, Spain):
2025 World Triathlon Race Competition Rules stipulate that AusTriathlon may nominate a maximum of 20 males and 20 females in each age group category of the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships.
Age group categories start at 16-19 (Aquathlon, Sprint Distance Duathlon – Draft Legal), 18-19 (Standard Distance Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, Aquabike, Long Distance Triathlon) and then progress in five-year blocks e.g., 20 – 24; 25 – 29 (Sprint Distance Duathlon, Standard Distance Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, Aquabike, Long Distance Triathlon); for both men and women.
Under the terms of the 2025 Australian Age Group Multisport Team Selection Policy, the AusTriathlon Age Group Committee is not required to select the maximum of 20 males and 20 females to the 2025 Australian Age Group Multisport Team. Final team numbers are at the absolute discretion of the AusTriathlon Age Group Committee.
Selection Events
1. What do I need to do when entering individual Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events?
It is the athlete’s responsibility to identify and comply with the registration rules for each individual Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Event.
Ensure you are a Relevant AusTriathlon Member as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Event. # Relevant AusTriathlon Membership means a current annual AusTriathlon membership in the full Standard and or Premium categories but excludes all Social and or Basic membership categories. Age group athletes will not receive selection points if you race in the nominated Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Event as a ONE Day member/ license holder.
Ensure that you enter your Relevant AusTriathlon membership number into each individual Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection race entry. You can confirm your relevant AusTriathlon membership number by contacting us. You will not receive selection points if you place an incorrect AusTriathlon membership number into your individual selection race entry, even if you are a relevant AusTriathlon member.
Ensure that you have triple checked the spelling of your name and your date of birth in your individual selection race entry. This name and date of birth must match your Relevant AusTriathlon membership name. Eg. Please do not enter Nick for Nicholas if your AusTriathlon Membership profile is under Nicholas). You will not receive selection points if this information is incorrect in your individual race entry.
Ensure you enter your individual selection race entry into your age group category e.g. 40-44. Athletes will not be awarded selection points when they race a nominated selection race in the Open, Elite, Paratriathlon and or Junior Elite category. Athletes must race in your designated age group category on race day at the nominated selection events.
2. How many Australian Age Group Triathlon and Multisport Team National Selection Events should I compete in?
The AusTriathlon National Age Group Manager will make selections in priority order per the highest accumulated selection points based on the best three results in the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events. Detailed information can be found in the Australian Age Group Team Selection Policies Clause G3(a).
Age group athletes can compete in as many individual relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events which they like. AusTriathlon will only take an athlete’s best three race results from the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events. Eg. An age group athlete can compete in seven individual relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Sprint Distance Triathlon selection events, AusTriathlon will select the athletes best three race results from the seven Sprint Distance Triathlon selection events which they raced in.
3. Can I enter and race in the open, elite, junior elite, paratriathlon category at an Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Event?
NO - Athletes will not be awarded selection points when they race a nominated selection race in the Open, Elite and or Junior Elite category. Athletes must race in their designated age group category on race day at the nominated selection events. Eg. You must enter and race the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team selection race in the male 40 to 44 age group category and not the Open category.
4. Can I be a AusTriathlon Professional License Holder and or Professional Development License Holder when racing at Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events?
NO – Athletes striving for Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team selection must not be the holder of a AusTriathlon Professional License and or Professional Development License during the financial year in which the selection events are conducted.
5. What age group category do I enter the Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team individual selection races in?
2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team (Wollongong) and 2025 Australian Age Group Multisport (Pontevedra) Team
Age group athletes competing in 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events held from 1 July 2023 until 30 June 2024 will race as their age as of 31 December 2023.
Age group athletes competing in 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events held from 1 July 2024 until the 30 June 2025 will race as their age as of 31st of December 2024.
Athletes selected to the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team will race at the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon World Championships (Wollongong, Australia) and the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships (Pontevedra, Spain) as there age as of 31 December 2025.
2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team (Venue TBC) and 2026 Australian Age Group Multisport (Abu Dhabi) Team
Age group athletes competing in 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events held from 1 July 2024 until 30 June 2025 will race as their age as of 31 December 2024.
Age group athletes competing in 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events held from 1 July 2025 until the 30 June 2026 will race as their age as of 31st of December 2025.
Athletes selected to the 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team will race at the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon World Championships (Venue TBC) and the 2026 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) as there age as of 31 December 2026.
6. Can I seek Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team selection in more than one event?
YES – Athletes can compete in more than one event at the World Triathlon Age Group World Triathlon Championships and or at the World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships.
Eg. An athlete can seek selection in the Sprint Distance Triathlon (Draft Legal) and the Mixed Team Relay (Draft Legal).
Eg. An athlete can seek selection in the Sprint Distance Duathlon (Draft Legal) and the Cross Triathlon.
Multisport: Please note as the Age Group Aquabike and Age Group Long Distance Triathlon events will be held on the same day at the same time at the World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships athletes are unable to compete in both events.
Triathlon: Please note as the Age Group Standard Distance Aquabike and Age Group Standard Distance Triathlon events will be held on the same day at the same time at the World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon World Championships athletes are unable to compete in both events.
7. Are you seeking selection in the Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon (Draft Legal), Mixed Team Relay (Draft Legal) and or the Sprint Distance Duathlon (Draft Legal) Team - Are the selection events for these events draft legal in Australia? Do I need a draft legal race license to compete in selection races in Australia?
Age Group athletes racing in Australia at the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events do not need to apply for a draft legal race license. The only athletes who must apply in Australia for a draft legal race license are the elite junior high performance pathway athletes.
Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon and Sprint Distance Duathlon Team National Selection Events are NON – Draft Legal. Eligible Australian age group athletes may be selected to the Australian Age Group Triathlon Team and or the Australian Age Group Multisport Team without completing a Draft Legal selection race during the nominated Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon and or Sprint Distance Duathlon Team National Selection Series.
If you are selected to the Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon (Draft Legal) Team and or the Australian Age Group Mixed Team Relay (Draft Legal) and or the Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Duathlon (Draft Legal) Team, you will need to meet strict World Triathlon Equipment Rules when racing at the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships. World Triathlon Age Group Draft Legal Equipment Rules can be located on page 40 of the World Triathlon Competition Rules. World Triathlon does not require age group athletes to be certified draft legal before competing at the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships.
8. World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships (Medical Requirements) for 5 Age Group Individual Races
Any individual Australian Age Group Multisport Team athlete who has been selected in five or more individual race distances will have to complete the World Triathlon PPE Medical Form and send this completed form, including all required documentation through to AusTriathlon at least 16 weeks before the start of the World Triathlon Age Group Multisport World Championships.

9. Can I automatically qualify at the designated relevant Australian Age Group National Championships for the Australian Age Group Multisport and or Triathlon Team?
The Australian Age Group Triathlon and Multisport Team Selection Policy Clause G.2.(a) notes -Automatic qualification for the Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team will be given to athletes who: a) Place first, second, third, fourth or fifth at the relevant Australian Age Group National Triathlon and or Multisport Championships as noted on the Australian Age Group Multisport and Triathlon Team National Selection Events Calendar in the following disciplines.

To validate this automatic qualification, athletes must meet all the eligibility criteria as outlined in the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team Selection Policies – Selection Policy Clause F.
# Athletes who place 1st to 5th in their age group category on the race day e.g., Female 20-24 at the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon National Championships will have the opportunity to seek automatic qualification to the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Team if the athlete meets all the eligibility criteria as outlined in the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Selection Policy – Selection Policy Clause F.
What happens if I come second in the Female 20-24 age group category at the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships but due to the World Triathlon Age Group Category Rules (Age group category is taken as of the 31st of December 2025) I will be seeking selection for the Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Team in the Female 25-29 age group category due to my age on the 31st of December 2025?
As the athlete has placed 2nd in the Female 20-24 age group category at the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships, they will be awarded a potential automatic qualification position for the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Team. To validate this automatic qualification, the athlete must meet all the eligibility criteria as outlined in the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Selection Policy – Selection Policy Clause F. The athlete will take this potential automatic qualification earned in the Female 20-24 age group category on race day and will take this forward to selection in the 25-29 Female age group category.
2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon (Wollongong) Team.
Automatic Qualification as noted in the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Selection Policy in Selection Policy Clause G.2.(a) will be noted next to each successful age group athlete on the published 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team National Selection Points. This is a potential automatic qualification as each age group athletes must validate this automatic qualification; athletes must meet all the eligibility criteria as outlined in the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team Selection Policy – Selection Policy Clause F.
# Automatic Qualification will not be validated until the selection of the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team. The preliminary 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team will not be released on the AusTriathlon website until 5pm AEST on Monday the 26th of May 2025.

2. How long does it take AusTriathlon to publish the selection points after a national selection event?
AusTriathlon may take up to 2 to 3 weeks to publish the selection points following a national selection event. Please note that the selection points make take longer depending on how quickly each timing company sends these results to AusTriathlon and how long it takes for the timing company to rectify results concerns including appeals, disqualifications etc.
3. I am a AusTriathlon member, and I competed in a selection event, and I have not received any selection points?
Were you a relevant AusTriathlon member by midnight on Thursday preceding the selection event? For selection points in an event to accumulate towards selection an athlete must hold a relevant AusTriathlon membership as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Event. # Relevant AusTriathlon Membership means a current annual AusTriathlon Membership in the full Standard and or Premium categories but excludes all Social and or Basic membership categories.
Did you enter your selection event with your correct information which matches your AusTriathlon relevant Membership? Selection points will not be awarded to relevant AusTriathlon members if the AusTriathlon member does not enter their relevant AusTriathlon membership number, correct date of birth and their full correctly spelled first and last names which match their Relevant AusTriathlon membership details at the time of entering each individual nominated selection event. AusTriathlon will not be correcting athlete’s selection points or awarding selection points post the selection event due to athlete’s incorrect race entry data.
4. I cannot find my name on the selection points list?
Are you listed on the official national selection event results from the timing company? AusTriathlon produces the selection points from the official race results received from each national selection event timing company. Please check the official race results from your national selection event to ensure your name and time have been listed correctly. If you notice problems with your official race results, please contact the timing company for the relevant national selection event to rectify these results. Please ask the timing company to notify AusTriathlon if your results are changed at any stage.
Are you looking at the correct age group category? World Triathlon age group eligibility criteria for racing at the World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon and Multisport World Championships is determined based on an athlete’s age on 31 December of the year of the relevant World Triathlon Age Group World Championships. Results from each national selection event will be converted to age as of 31 December of the year of the relevant World Triathlon Age Group World Championships and selection points allocated in priority order per the official race finishing time.
What is your age on the 31 December of the year of the relevant World Triathlon Age Group World Championships? To locate your selection points, you need to look in this age group category regardless of what age group category you raced in on race day at the national selection events. Please see below for an example of this change in age group category rules.
5. I came first in my age group category on race day but on the selection points table I have only received the selection points for third place in my age group category?
2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon (Wollongong) Team
World Triathlon age group eligibility criteria for racing at the World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon and Multisport World Championships is determined based on an athlete’s age on 31 December 2025. Results from each national selection event will be converted to age as of 31 December 2025 and selection points allocated in priority order per the official race finishing time.
Please remember that athletes in Australia racing at national selection events will be racing under the Australian Race Competition Rules. The age group category rule under the Australian Race Competition Rules is different to the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules which you will race under at the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon World Championships.
Example in the change of age group category:
Sam Smith would like to seek selection to the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Team (Draft Legal) – Wollongong, Australia.
Sam races at the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon National Selection Events under the Australian Competition Rules. Under the Australian Competition Rules Sam races in the Sprint Distance Triathlon events as his age on the 31 December 2024. On 31 December 2024 Sam is 44 years old. Sam races his Sprint Distance Triathlon selection events in the 40 to 44 year age group category.
If Sam is selected for the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Team, Sam will be competing under the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules. At the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships in Wollongong, Australia Sam will race as his age on the 31 December 2025. Sam will be 45 years old on the 31 December 2025. Sam races at the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships in the 45 to 49 age group category.
So what does this all mean?
Due to the World Triathlon Race Competition Rules at the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships, Sam needs to be selected for this event as his age as of the 31 December 2025 – 45 to 49 age group category not the age group category he may race in on race day in Australia.
To ensure athletes are placed in the correct World Triathlon Race Competition Rules Age Group Category, the National Age Group Manager takes Sam’s overall finish time from his national Sprint Distance Triathlon national selection event where he raced under the Australian Race Competition Rules in the 40 to 44 age group category and places Sam’s overall finish time into the 45 to 49 age group category. Sam is awarded selection points in the 45 to 49 age group category.
6. What happens if I finish in an identical time to another athlete in my age group category?
Athletes finishing in identical time will, for the purposes of the Australian Age Group Triathlon and Multisport Team Selection Policy, be regarded as finishing in a tie and will be awarded selection points as in the following example:
E.g., If two athletes finish in a tie (as defined) for fourth position in event four, they will be awarded 21.5 points each (22 + 21 = 43 divided by 2 = 21.5).
7. I raced a national selection event as a one-day member, why have I not received selection points?
For selection points in an event to accumulate towards selection an athlete must hold a relevant AusTriathlon Membership as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Event. # Relevant AusTriathlon Membership means a current annual AusTriathlon Membership in the full Standard and or Premium categories but excludes all Social and or Basic membership categories.
8. I raced in the junior elite/ open category, paratriathlon category at the national selection event, why have I not received selection points?
Age group athletes will not receive selection points from national selection points if you race in an open/ paratriathlon and or junior elite race category on race day. Age group athletes who would like to seek selection points must race in their age group category on race day at the national selection event. Eg. Male 40 to 44 age group category.
9. If an ineligible athlete finishes in front of me at a national selection event, will I receive this athlete's selection points?
If an ineligible athlete finishes in the top 25 places in any selection event the points allocated to that finishing position will not “roll down” to the next eligible athlete. Selection points will not be awarded to athletes who are not eligible for selection in the team per the terms of the Australian Age Group Triathlon and Multisport Team Selection Policy – Selection Policy Clause F2.
10. I signed up as a AusTriathlon member after I competed in the national selection event, can I now be allocated selection points?
NO - For selection points in an event to accumulate towards selection an athlete must hold a relevant AusTriathlon Membership as of midnight on the Thursday preceding the date of the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Event. # Relevant AusTriathlon Membership means a current annual AusTriathlon Membership in the full Standard and or Premium categories but excludes all Social and or Basic membership categories.
11. What happens if a national selection event is cancelled and or modified, will I still receive selection points?
If an event is cancelled for any reason, selection points will not be allocated for that event for the purposes of selection in the team. AusTriathlon will not be responsible for any loss or damage caused by or arising out of such cancellation.
If an event format is changed for any reason selection points will still be awarded per the terms of the Australian Age Group Triathlon and Multisport Team Selection Policy – Selection Policy Clause E1.
Examples of an event format change include but are not limited to:
1) A triathlon becomes a duathlon
2) The event distance is amended, for example the swim of a triathlon is changed from a 1500m swim to a 750m swim.
12. Do Australian Age Group Multisport and or Triathlon National Championships provide athletes the chance to gain double selection points?
YES - Australian Age Group Multisport and or Triathlon National Championships as noted on the Australian Age Group Multisport and Triathlon Team National Selection Events Calendar provide the opportunity for eligible athletes to receive double selection points. The Australian Age Group Multisport and Triathlon Team Selection Policies – Selection Policy Clause E.1 notes these double selection points.
Expression of Interest Applications
1. Do I need to be a AusTriathlon member to express interest in the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team?
YES – you must be a current Relevant AusTriathlon member to apply for the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team. # Relevant AusTriathlon Membership means a current annual AusTriathlon membership in the full Standard and or Premium categories but excludes all Social and or Basic membership categories.
Age group athletes cannot express interest in the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team as a ONE DAY license holder.
2. Do I need to express interest for the Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team before I compete in a National Selection Event?
NO - AusTriathlon members do not need to complete an online team expression of interest before racing in a nominated Australian Age Group Team National Selection Events. This allows AusTriathlon members the opportunity to race throughout the season and see how they are performing in selection races before expressing interest for the Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team.
3. Will AusTriathlon accept late Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team Expression of Interest?
NO - Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team Expression of Interest online applications will NOT be accepted under any circumstances after the noted close of expression of interest.
For the avoidance of doubt, this includes Australian athletes residing overseas who wish to be considered for selection, athletes who wish to be considered for discretionary selection and athletes who have gained automatic selection. If you have not completed an expression of interest online by the nominated deadline you will NOT be selected for the Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team under any circumstances.
4. Do I need to pay an application fee when expressing interest online for the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team?
1. Athletes will pay a $25.00 application fee per each individual event/ discipline when notifying AusTriathlon of their Expression of Interest for the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team selection online. For example, athletes who would like to apply for more than one event e.g., Aquathlon and Cross Triathlon will complete two separate online applications with a separate $25.00 payment for each individual event.
2. If an athlete is not selected onto the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team in the relevant event/ discipline for which they had applied, $15.00 of their application fee will be refunded. If the athlete was unsuccessful in more than one discipline/ event the athlete will receive $15.00 of each individual ($25.00) application fee made to AusTriathlon.
3. If an athlete is selected to the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team and the athlete declines the position on the 2025 team in one or more events/ disciplines no part of the application fee will be refunded.
4. If an athlete is selected onto the 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team and they accept their position on the team the $25.00 application fee (minus the GO Membership Online Processing fee $1.25) will be deducted from the athletes overall, 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team Athlete Contribution. If an athlete has been selected in more than one event/ discipline each individual application fee of $25.00 (minus the GO Membership Online Processing Fee $1.25) will be deducted from the athletes overall 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team Athlete Contribution.
5. If the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon World Championships are cancelled by World Triathlon and or the Local Organising Committee athletes will be refunded their $25.00 per individual application fee to AusTriathlon (minus the GO Membership Online Processing Fee $1.25).
6. If AusTriathlon at its discretion does not select a 2025 Australian Age Group Triathlon, Multisport and or Long Distance Duathlon Team, athletes who have applied for this team will be refunded their $25.00 per individual application fee to AusTriathlon (minus the GO Membership Online Processing Fee $1.25).

Athletes are unable to transfer 2025 Australian Age Group Team online expression of interest applications to 2026 Australian Age Group Teams.
World Triathlon Age Group World Championships which are Draft Legal
1. Which World Triathlon Age Group Multisport and or Triathlon World Championships are Draft Legal?
2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships – Wollongong.
2025 World Triathlon Age Group Mixed Team Relay World Championships – Wollongong.
2025 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Duathlon World Championships – Pontevedra.
2026 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships – Venue TBC.
2026 World Triathlon Age Group Mixed Team Relay World Championships – Venue TBC.
2026 World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Distance Duathlon World Championships – Abu Dhabi.
2. Are you seeking selection to the 2025 Age Group Triathlon Team Wollongong (Sprint Triathlon, Mixed Team Relay) and or the 2025 Age Group Multisport Team Pontevedra (Sprint Duathlon) Do I need a draft legal race license to compete in selection races in Australia?
Age Group athletes racing in Australia at the relevant Australian Age Group Triathlon and or Multisport Team National Selection Events do not need to apply for a draft legal race license. The only athletes who must apply in Australia for a draft legal race license are the elite junior high performance pathway athletes.
Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon and Sprint Distance Duathlon Team National Selection Events are NON – Draft Legal. Eligible Australian age group athletes may be selected to the Australian Age Group Triathlon Team and or the Australian Age Group Multisport Team without completing a Draft Legal selection race during the nominated Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon and or Sprint Distance Duathlon Team National Selection Series.
If you are selected to the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon (Draft Legal) Team and or the 2025 Australian Age Group Mixed Team Relay (Draft Legal) Wollongong and or the 2025 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Duathlon (Draft Legal) Team Pontevedra, you will need to meet strict World Triathlon Equipment Rules when racing at the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships. World Triathlon Age Group Draft Legal Equipment Rules can be located on page 40 of the World Triathlon Competition Rules. World Triathlon does not require age group athletes to be certified draft legal before competing at the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships.
3. Can I use my time trial bike in the draft legal events at the World Championships?
NO – Age group athletes competing in either the Sprint Distance Duathlon and or the Sprint Distance Triathlon and or the Mixed Team Relay cannot use a time trial bike at these events. World Triathlon Technical Officials will automatically disqualify you if you try and race on a time trial bike at these relevant World Triathlon Age Group World Championship events.
4. When racing at the World Triathlon Age Group Multisport and Triathlon World Championships which are Draft Legal, do I need to meet certain rules in relation to my personal cycle equipment?
YES – age group athletes must meet strict World Triathlon Race Competition Rules regarding cycle equipment for draft legal events. Detailed information may be found in the World Triathlon Competition Rules
