Ben Devries Delivered a Dominant Sprint Win in Wollongong

Ben Devries, a rising star from Wagga Triathlon Club, and also a member of our NSW Development Squad, gave a dominant performance on the world stage at the 2025 Age Group World Championships in Wollongong, claiming gold in the 16–19 Sprint. His story is one of quiet confidence, resilience, and team pride.

“I went into the race confident in my fitness,” Ben shared, reflecting on his preparation. “I’d come off a long winter block and was lucky enough to stay illness-free for most of it.” Despite not feeling his best the day before the race, Ben leaned into his training and trusted the taper. That belief paid off with a strong performance and as we know, a gold medal.

His proudest moment? Sharing the podium with four fellow Aussies, two of whom also hail from NSW. “It was special to stand up there together,” he said. “It shows the strength of our community and the depth of talent coming through.”

Ben’s pre-race ritual is as grounded as his mindset: Spaghetti Bolognese the night before, a tradition dating back to Year 2 cross country. It’s a comforting constant in a sport full of variables.

When asked to sum up his race in three words, Ben didn’t hesitate: Trust the Process. It’s a statement that reflects his maturity and long-term approach to performance.

Ben’s win was delivered off the back of solid preparation, self-belief, and the strength of the NSW’s triathlon community. From Wagga Wagga to Wollongong, we can’t wait to see what’s next for this young athlete.

💚💛
