Introducing Claire Dedden – Back on top in Wollongong with a Sprint Age Group World Championship Win

Back on the top step in Wollongong!

Claire Dedden, a member of Newcastle Tri Club, made a triumphant return to the world stage at the 2025 Age Group World Championships in Wollongong, delivering an inspiring performance worthy of celebration in itself, but perhaps even moreso, having overcome setbacks throughout her triathlon journey.

Since winning a 2018 AG World Champs gold, also on home soil (Gold Coast), Claire shared there were many years of injuries and setbacks, which made this comeback extra special. “It was unreal to be back out there,” she says. “I couldn’t have done it without my amazing support network. I’m so grateful for everyone who helped me get here.”

When we asked what she thought was her key to success? She shared, consistency. “If you’re always showing up, even on the days you don’t feel like it, good things will happen.”  It was this mindset that carried her all the way through training and onto the podium.

Beyond the win, Claire’s highlight moment was being part of the Aussie team spirit. “From friendly transition chats to helping each other on the bike, and the Aussie spectators yelling on the sidelines, it was a great vibe!”

Her pre-race ritual is all about preparation: a light jog to warm up and a clear understanding of the transition flow. “Knowing where I’m going and what I’m doing helps me stay calm and focused.” Great advice!

Claire summed up her race for us in these three words – Exciting. Surreal. Unexpected.

Claire’s story is a strong reminder that resilience, community, and continuing to show up, really can lead to something extraordinary!

💚💛
