A Golden Performance From Illawarra’s James Davy

James Davy of Illawarra Triathlon Club delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Age Group World Championships in Wollongong, claiming gold in the 35–39 Age Category for the Standard Distance Triathlon. Racing on home soil, James combined structured preparation with local intel and pride to produce a race he calls “one to remember.”

“The key to being in winning form was consistent training over winter,” James shared. “I followed a structured program with regular performance testing so I could see how I was tracking.” That consistent and data-driven approach gave James the confidence to execute perfectly on race day.

But it wasn’t just the training that made the day special. “Racing on home soil with friends and family cheering me on was a huge highlight,” he said.

We’ve no doubt the energy of the crowd, and the familiarity of the course added the perfect spark!

James’ pre-race rituals are simple but gold-medal effective: a pasta dinner the night before, and a double shot coffee on race morning. It’s a routine that’s served him well across seasons and distances. And as the saying goes – if it’s not broken, why fix it.

Reflecting on the event itself, James was full of praise: “I really enjoyed racing at World Champs. It was so good to be part of such a big event that was run so well.”

James shared that he is taking a well-earned break, but has eyes on his next race in early 2026.

If you see James at a local club race be sure to wish him congratulations. It’s not every day you get to become a World Champion in your own backyard!

💚💛
