Triathlon NSW is proud to officially welcome the Northern Beaches Ocean Dragons, also affectionately known as the Ocean Dragons, as our newest affiliated club. Based on Sydney’s iconic Northern Beaches, the Ocean Dragons starts as a juniors-focused triathlon club with a big heart and an even bigger mission: to create an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages children to try triathlon for the first time.
Through sport, the club aims to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
To drive this vision in the community, the Ocean Dragons are lowering barriers to entry with accessible equipment, welcoming events, and inspiring coaching. Weekly training sessions cater to young athletes of all abilities, offering a safe, energetic space to develop.
The club’s first season is all about laying strong foundations. The committee shared:
“We’re focused on introducing triathlon through fun, safe, and supportive sessions that build skills and confidence. Our priority is participation over performance – helping kids develop healthy habits and a love for the sport from an early age.”
To keep members engaged, the Ocean Dragons are rolling out age-appropriate training across swim, bike, and run, alongside regular communication with families, team-building events, and strong club branding to foster pride and identity.
One standout moment this season will be the club’s first “Come & Tri” event on 29 November – a non-competitive, family-friendly introduction to triathlon featuring short distances, music, prizes, and plenty of encouragement. It’s a celebration of everything the Ocean Dragons stand for: accessibility, community, and fun. Looking ahead, the club also plans to rally a contingent for the NSW Club Championships in February 2026.
While new, the Ocean Dragons benefit from a wealth of experience and support from founders who’ve long been part of the sport. Their long-term vision includes:
- Expanding training offerings and athlete pathways from grassroots to competitive racing
- Building strong partnerships with schools, councils, and community organisations and businesses
- Inspiring similar junior initiatives across NSW
- Operating under the highest child safety standards with a committed volunteer base
