The iconic IRONMAN Australia and IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie returns in May 2024

15 Dec 2023

The triathlon community will return to a place synonymous with the sport for the 37th IRONMAN Australia and IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie. Thousands of people from all walks of life will converge on this beautiful Mid-North Coast town on Sunday 5th May 2024 to experience an event experience and a challenge like no other.

Oceania TriClub Championship
Home to the Oceania TriClub Championship, where the top 5 clubs will be celebrated based on the performance of their top five individual Age Group Ranking (AGR) athletes. Because of this, IRONMAN Australia and IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie is famous for having incredible supporters from loud and proud TriClubbers cheering on their fellow teammates. We provide a dedicated zone, TriClub Village, which is located on prime real estate along the run course, just before athletes head down the finishing chute. This means athletes pass TriClub Village four times (twice for IRONMAN 70.3 athletes) and is well-known for being one of the best spots on the run course!

Furthermore, both the IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 events will be point scoring events for the Sydney Premier League, Sydney League One and Hunter League, adding more incentive for members and clubs in these leagues to get some points on the board before the final round of the season at Club Champs a few weeks later!

Stunning Coastal Location
IRONMAN Australia and IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie is located in the beautiful coastal town of Port Macquarie. Situated on the Mid-North Coast, Port Mac is renowned for its natural beauty, stunning beaches, and abundance of wildlife.

IRONMAN Australia

A Course like No Other
Both the IRONMAN Australia and IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie courses are incredibly unique, taking in the beautiful landscapes and scenery of the local area. Both races start in the calm and protected waters of the Hastings River, with IRONMAN Australia athletes having the famous weir crossing in their swim leg.
For IRONMAN Australia athletes, their course first takes them west through the scenic townships and rolling hills of Pembrooke for two laps, before joining the IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie course which heads south along the rolling hills of Ocean Drive, a breathtaking loop to the Tacking Point Lighthouse and then continuing south, enjoying sweeping ocean views to Lake Cathie where athletes will turn around and then head back.
Then, on the final leg, you can expect a predominately flat, 4 lap course for IRONMAN athletes and 2 for IRONMAN 70.3 athletes. The course takes athletes through iconic parts of the town including the start of the breakwall, along the shady banks of Kooloonbung Creek, up to Settlepoint and then back through the famous TriClub Village before heading down the iconic red carpet and finish line (and for IRONMAN athletes, hearing those 4 coveted words “YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!)
